Hayden still needs to win a mile and a TT event in order to etch his name in the record books alongside such racing greats as Dick Mann and Kenny Roberts. If he can pull off a big victory at one of the two big mile events during the weekend, he will be that much c1oser10 realizing his dream. l-Ie will get his first chance on Saturday at the richest race in the U.S. Flat Track Championships series, the FedEx Dirt Track Hall of Fame Grand National race, with $75,000 up for grabs on the ultra-fast one-mile oval. Last year, Will Davis rebounded from his runner·up finish at the Short Track to win the first mile of his career and collect a giant paycheck. In support of the Hall of Fame Grand National, the Harley-Davidson Sportster Performance and SuperTrapp SuperTracker Series will hold rounds of their respective series as well. On Sunday, the racers return for The FedEx Springfield Mile, long recognized as the Daytona 500/lndy 500 of dirt track racing. From 1937 until 1954 this was the single race that decided the National Championship. Today it's the one all the riders want to win. Last year, Scott Parker came out of retirement to race the tripleheader at Springfield. After shoWing a little racing rust over the first two days, the nine-time champion transformed into the Parker of old on Sun· day, pulling some last· lap magic out of his hat to win his 14th career Springfield Mile. Parker will not be racing this year, but the best dirttrackers in the business will vie for the most-coveted win in the sport as they try to put their name among the ·who's who· in racing that have won the Springfield Mile. On Sunday, a 600cc support class will complement the Progressive Insurance Grand National races. Practice for the FedEx Short Track Shootout on Friday starts at 4:30 p.m., qualifying at 5:30 p.m., and opening ceremonies are scheduled for 7 p.m., with racing at 7:30 pm. On Saturday and Sunday on the mile, practice starts at 10:30 a.m., with qualifying at 11:30 a.m., opening ceremonies at 1 p.m. and racing at 1:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased for the FedEx Dirt Track Hall of Fame Week· • end Races at participating Illinois Motorcycle Dealers Association motorcycle dealers.
