I The 2001 THQ U.S. Open will air on ESPN2 on November 11. according to event promoters. The Supercross. scheduled for October 13-14 at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, will also feature a purse of $300,000 .• Supercross has been a mainstay on ESPN2 for the past 10 years and now fans can catch the barbanging action of the THQ U.S. Open as well,' said Tim Clark. director of the race. in a press release. Robbie Knievel will attempt to jump $10 million worth of Indy Cars prior to the start of the Chevy 500 Indy Racing Northern light Series finale at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth. Texas, on September 16. Knievel's jump will be over 20 Indy Cars, a distance of approximately 175 feet. The cars will be lined up just like the start of the race - 10 rows of cars parked nose-to-tail. two cars wide. The cars are valued at $10 million. "I'm really excited to be jumping at Texas Motor Speedway.' Knievel said in a press release. "Not only am I jumping 10 million dollars worth of Indy Cars, it will be another huge record to add to my 31-year jumping career.' "Kaplain Robbie Knievel is a household name and a headline act.' speedway general manager Eddie Gossage said. "The fans will be able to witness this incredible jump as part of the race-day activities - we are not increasing ticket -prices for the race. With one ticket, fans can see the Chevy 500 Indy Car race. the crowning of the Indy Racing's 2001 champion and the legendary Kaptain Robbie Knievel. This jump is about the same distance of a 55- or 60-yard field goal. With 10 million dollars worth of Indy Cars between the ramps, it is obviously important to Kaptain Robbie Knievel's health and our bank account that he makes it completely over the gap and doesn't damage himself or these expensive cars.' According to a press release from the dealership, Service Honda in Indiana is currently taking orders for their 2002 CR500 AF motocrossers. The CR500 AF combines the 2002 CR aluminum chassis with a CR500 engine, according to Service Honda. Prices start at $8350. For more information, call 219/9323588. Former World Champions Wayne Rainey and Eddie Lawson will be part of a field of some 30 SuperKarts that will race at the Streets of Willow in Rosamond, California, on September 15 - the same weekend that Willow's big course plays host to the AMA/Chevy Trucks U.S. $uperbike Series. The Yamaha World SuperKart Challenge will feature a $10,000 purse.
