with the day's fastest run, a 9.353second time. "That was an incredible ride,· said Large of Thomas' ride. "That man never let off on the whole run - top to bottom, wide open." Strank took the conservative route on the Dr. Bob Racing's-backed Yamaha Rl with a 10.855-second run, to edge out Anthony DeHart on the Dr. Bob Racing-backed Kawasaki Triple. Much like the 540cc class, the second-round times were not as fast as the first-round runs, but at least the sun had come out. Large tried to catch Thomas, but he had problems off the big jump and had to settle for second. Strank also had problems, but he took a safe third. A.M. General-backed Anthony DeHart claimed fifth overall, based on the time from his first run. Libhart had problems on the line, and Scheuermann fell off two feet from the timers on his second pass, ending each of their days. Thomas then wheeled his backup XS800 to the line, so that the last rider of the day, Libhart, would have a chance to beat his time, demonstrating the sportsmanship of Pro hillclimbing. Libhart took a cautious approach over the double on the unfamiliar motorcycle, but he turned it on, on the top half, to finish fourth overall with a 12.952-second run. "' think there was more traction on my 800 ride than on my 540 ride," Thomas described. "It felt just like last year, except' may have been faster after that last jump today." said Jeff Thomas. eN Pup H.le NetI....1 1eDavi11., New Yn 1esBhs:a.gUltll;ZIOl 800ce: 1. Jeff Thomas (Yam): 2.
