Davidson-backed Sportster into third from eighth on the first lap. Scott Scherb (Widman Harley- Rich King ran away with heat three over Sam Lowe. J.R. Schnabel (Team Powell/West Bend Harley-Davidson) came out on top of a race-Iorig war Davidson/Nallin Racing), James Hart (Coziahr Harley-Davidson/Memphis Shades) and A.J. Eslick (Frieze Harley-Davidson/Air Hawk) battled with Steve Beattie for the last direct transfer. Mike Hacker came away with the last heat win, but was pushed by Gary Rogers most of the way. Kenny Coolbeth raced by Shawn Clark late in the race to earn his way into the National. over third until they were joined by Smith. Hart's ride came to a smoky end on lap eight. HARLEY-DAVIDSON SPORTSTER PERFORMANCE SERIES After the GNC main, the Sportsters ran their heats. Mitchell's HarleyD~vidson/JDW Masonry's Nate Wait, Moroney's Harley-Davidson/Metro Racing's Jake Johnson and Moroney's Harley-Davidson/Buck/ Fast Plates' Paul Morgan 1II were the three winners. Wait got the holeshot in the main event, but his race was over just as quickly as mechanical problems sidelined the young Californian. Moroney's new find, Jake Johnson took over and led his teammate, Morgan, all the way.
