Deb Quinn (Kaw). e DMRA Cross COUntry Series Rounds 7-8: Tillamook State forest Matheney Takes Tillamook By ADAM ACHEPOHL TILLAMOOK, OR, JULY 21-22 ason Matheney, riding a brandnew KTM 250 EXC, was unbeatable on both days of the Dual European Hare Scrambles in the tight woods and fast fire roads of the Tillamook State Forest. On Saturday, Matheney, riding in the Open Expert class, pushed through the AA pack after three laps of patiently waiting. By the fourth and final lap, only one rider stood in his way: Derek Steahly, who was riding a borrowed VZ] 25 since his regular weapon, a KTM 250 EXC, was on its way to France for the International Six Days Enduro. Matheney was on the gas, however, and Steahly kindly let the Anderson Cycle-backed ] 7year-old by. The lead had already changed quite a bit earlier in the race, as the AA class saw Rob Chastain and Waiter Schwarz locked in an early battle. By the end of the first ]] -mile loop, however, Matheney was unknowingly in the lead, followed closely by Steahly and Mason Harrison. Steahly assumed the lead for a lap but then settled for second, while Harrison held on to third.
