urday through the last chance. He was not alone in the LCQ, either. Factory Yamaha rider Trevor Vines also rode with the "Tomcat" in the second round to transfer into the main. Vines made the main on Saturday after just missing the cut on Friday. Clowers, who rode mistake free in both mains, finished 6-3 on the weekend. The new guys are doing some new tricks and combinations that the veterans are not. This would explain Mike Metzger's 17th place on Friday. Metzger, who hasn't competed in an IFMA competition in over a year, had this to say about sitting out Saturday's contest: "I didn't feel comfortable on the tight course, so I'm not going to risk it tonight. I've been injured going into Gravity and X games these past few years, and I want to stay healthy this year." To Metzger's credit, the IFMA regulars did have a hard time getting used to the tight course and Miller, John Distler and Dan Pastor crashed in practice while getting used to the jumps. LBZ's John Distler and Metzger Motorsports' Jimmie McGuire made the main on Friday to qualify for their toughest main event to date. McGuire crashed and finished eighth, and Distler's run one-upped McGuire's. KTM factory pilot Kenny Bartram was told by the judges to slow it down a notch on his combinations following his 11th-place finish on Friday. "I don't understand it, the judges told me that I'm doing too many combinations and they can't tell what my tricks are," he said. Apparently, the problem was with Bartram moving too fast and not extending his tricks. He slowed down and finished sixth on Saturday. His No Fear teammate Drake McElroy is still getting his rhythm back since breaking his leg and back earlier this summer and failed to qualify for either main event in only his second weekend back.
