bout this time each year for the
last four years, three and a half
miles of U.S. Highway 40 is closed to
traffic to make way for two days of
motorcycle racing and fun. The highway that winds up the mountainside
from Donner Lake and the hillsides
and parking lots around Donner Ski
Ranch are transformed into a variety
of race courses as riders and enthusiasts alike converge on this scenic
spot atop Donner Pass.
This year's running of the event
saw the return of many favorite events
from previous years. The Pavement
Hillclimb from Donner Lake to the
summit always attracts a host of riders eager to test their road race skills
against the mountain and each other.
The Dirt Hillclimb that winds up a
steep ski slope behind the lodge is a
points-paying event for the North
American HiIJclimb Association Series
that includes such events as the Great
American Hillclimb in Billings.
The Super TT was back. In the
style of the SuperMotard, popular in
Europe, competitors in this event
come from varied racing backgrounds (road racing, dirt track,
