It cost the Jones boys big time, as they ended up in the infield. The HOGSTON, TX, JGLY 14 action was fast-paced and intense, ummertime in Texas means long, making for an exciting evening of hot days with no relief from the racing. S scorching sun. Luckily, it also means Mark Gerloff grabbed the holeshot night racing under the lights. This over the rest of the field as the Over year's STC Stubbs Cycles Stars Over Texas Night Series kicked off at Mills 25 Experts charged the first turn. Breck Powers, Tony Bacon and Matt Road Motocross Park and 400 Chapa were in a three-way battle for second. Powers pulled some ground and had Gerloff in his sights early. Gerloff held down the lead at the end of lap one, but Powers was a close second. Todd Kirby and Chapa were locked in a battle for fourth. The laps clicked by without any changes in position. On the fourth lap, Kirby passed Bacon, advancing the Top Gun MX Academy rider to third. When the white flag came out, it looked like a race for the lead had materialized, with Powers breathing down Gerloff's neck. With only one more corner before the finish, the Honda riders' lines crossed, sending Powers to the ground. Gerloff took the first-moto win, with Kirby taking over the runner-up position and Bacon taking third. Gerloff snagged another holeshot in the second moto, ahead of Chapa and Kirby. In the first corner, Powers found himself remounting in last after a fall. Early on, Kirby had his hands full with Bacon, and the two raced wheel to wheel for much of the first lap. Kirby must have realized he couldn't shake Bacon, because his paced quickened, catching Chapa and passing him on the second lap. Bacon made it around on the third lap, sending Chapa back to fourth. With Gerloff out front, the only race on the track seemed to be for second. The battle picked up, with Bacon challenging and passing Kirby on the fourth lap. When the white flag came out, Gerloff was out front and Bacon was now in second. By finishing this way, Bacon took second overall with a 3-2 finish, behind Gerloff's perfect 1-1 score. Kirby and Chapa finished out the night in third and fourth overall. Matt Ogradowicz took the holeshot in the first moto of the 125cc Open class, with a whole herd of riders behind, waiting to make a move. Vernon McKiddie and Randy Childers both passed the L&O Inc. rider and Ogradowicz found himself in third, being hounded by Brian Germany and Jake Crosby. Germany didn't make his move until the end of the first lap, passing Ogradowicz over the finish-line jump for fourth. However, Germany was the first to falter, going down in the Easley Sweeper and dropping back to eighth on the third lap. Germany had his work cut out for him as he charged back to the front.
