STORY AND PHOTOS BY DOUG KARCHER WASHOUGAL, WA, JULY 28 resh off her win at Budds Creek, and in front of record crowds attending the 125/250cc Pro National, Tania Satchwell put her Yamaha out in front of the field and never looked back at round four of the WML Series, which is supported by Honda, Dunlop, Scott USA, Alpinestars, Throttle Jockey and Smart Girls Racing, with product support from White Brothers, Beaverton Yamaha/Honda, Vixen Offroad, Split USA, Gear Custom Products, Tag Metals, Zumiez.com, Boyesen, Fastway, Da Kine, Roxy, Jaz Racing Products, Acerbis and TRpro.com. Riding a two-moto format in muddy conditions, the AGP/Oakley/ Bel-Ray-sponsored Satchwell again demonstrated the form that has put her on top of the Pro points chase in this increasingly competitive series. "I just got awesome starts, 1 didn't have to deal with the mud in my face and I just cruised," she said. Riding a borrowed 1999 YZ125, the 21-year-old from Taupo, New Zealand, dominated both motos and now leads Stefy Bau and the rest of the field by four points in the Pro standings. Taking the holeshot in moto one, Satchwell was followed into the first turn by the Crossroads Powersportsbacked Honda CR125 of former WML champ Bau and then Sheena Patterson, on the Cycle Gear Suzuki. Concerned that she was losing precious places, she remounted without the boot. She waved off efforts by her crew on each lap to get her to put the boot back on and rode the rest of the race without it, picking off riders and moving back up to eventually finish fourth. eN rider was quickly passed by Satchwell. Riding in the still muddy conditions, Satchwell put nearly 10 seconds between herself and second-placed Washougal Motocross Parte Washougal. Patterson, taking advantage of a fall by Bau, took over the second-place spot and set out to catch the leader. However, Satchwell, riding extremely well in the muddy conditions, was not going to be caught. Adding seconds to her lead each lap, she took the moto-one win with a comfortable 15-second lead, followed by Patterson and Bau. In moto two, Bonnie Warch absconded with the holeshot, but the Varner/Alpinestars/No Fear Suzuki with Bau another 15 seconds behind. Satchwell ran away again, virtually unchallenged, to take the moto and overall win. The Amateur class ran a one-moto format due to the muddy conditions, but it was no less challenging. Honda-mounted Cheryl Penrose rode to the win, followed by Yamaha rider Denise Bayles and Kawasaki jockey Shiri Howell. Amber Farley turned in what was possibly the most remarkable performance of the day. Riding at the front of the pack on the opening laps, Farley went down.
