Florida MX Series Round 12: Thundercross MX Park Goerke, Dyess Rule Florida Finale By DIANA TAGGART OKEECHOBEE, FL, JULY 15 att Goerke and Dean Dyess ruled the day in the 85cc ranks at the double-points final race of the Florida MX Series at Thundercross MX Park. Goerke went 1-1 in both the Supermini and 85cc (12-15) classes, with Kyle Meeks taking a 2-2 tally. Goerke took the holeshot in mota one of the Supermini contest, with Meeks right on his rear wheel; however, Goerke pulled out the lead with room to spare and no challengers in sight. In the second mota, Meeks claimed the holeshot, looking for a different outcome than in the first M mota, but Goerke met up with him at the second corner and took the lead for himself, pulling out a 10-second lead by the third lap to secure his 1- 1 victory for the day. This left Meeks with the 2-2 tally. The 85cc (12-15) contest was another simple race for Goerke, and he achieved another 1-1 score, again with Meeks right behind. Dyess dominated the 85cc (7 - 11) class with a 1-1 finish, taking the holeshot in both motos. R.iding flawlessly and smoothly, Dyess definitely showed that this is his home track. Ricky Renner was there to remind him he was not alone in the race for the lead, but it was to no avail, as Renner finished second overall. The 125cc C class had the most fun on the day. The first mota was Shaun Skinner's all the way, and the second should have been the same; however, the blinding rain made this the "mud" mota. With vision limited in this mota, most of the racers were still taking all the jumps, including the 80-foot tabletop jump. The racers in this mota definitely raced from memory, because with no goggles and the rain, it was impossible to see; they may as well have raced with their eyes closed. Skinner managed to pull out an eighth in the mud mota, finishing fourth overall, which took some points from his overall series quest. Skinner said it was worth it, though, for that mota was the most fun one he had ridden in while, and the other riders were in full agreement. This mota closed out the day and left the track open to the younger racers, who took to the empty track, sliding down the jumps into the huge puddles that were accumulating at the bottom of them until track officials put an end to their fun, leaving their parents to contend with the mess. The rider of the day was KTM pilot Tom Bragg, who went 5-2 in the Over 35 class, 1 -2 in the Over 40 class, and 1-1 in the Over 50 class. This fiftysomething rider contested six motos with only a three-mota rest between two of the classes and pulled the holeshot in every mota to show the others how it's done. Even though his son rode the Four-Stroke and Over 25 classes on the same bike making it 10 motos for the day - the KTM rode as strongly as its riders. Mike Bragg went 1-1 in both the Four-Stroke and Over 25 classes. The Open Money class yielded a 1-1 tally for Honda rider Jeremy Shuttleworth. In the first mota, Sam Allen absconded with the holeshot, but he went down on the first lap and gave the lead to Paul Perebijnos, with Shuttleworth on his heels. By the second lap, Shuttleworth had taken the lead from Perebijnos, leaving him to fight it out with Randy Jackson for second. By the third lap, Shuttleworth •.,c. 11, ",111' ,.,e', Ft .,'11 21, "111'., TI MI' I, Ft.... 1., TI MI' 21, I,.I'III••~, Il M., 27, 1,.I_ItIf, n "••• 2," , •• 11, ""1 IP.r•••,•• "... 21, ........, W.
