Riders from all over Wisconsin have been contesting the series, which is filled with contingencies and prizes from various sponsors. Round five was at the Kewaunee County Fairgrounds in Luxemburg. More than 300 riders took to the hard-packed, man-made, stadium-style course to vie for huge National Championshipstyle trophies and cash payout. Matthew Hopkins won the 125cc Junior and 125cc B classes, but Tyler Smulders - undefeated in the Northern Cup MX Series' 250cc B class put an end to Hopkins' streak by winning the second 250cc B moto to keep his own win streak alive. Jason Mathie got the holeshot in the first 250cc B moto, ahead of Mark Schick and Kevin Milbach. Smulders and Hopkins started near the back of the pack. Mathie led Schick for the first two laps; then Schick decided to stick his Honda in front of Mathie after the infield triple, but he couldn't make it stick on the slippery track. In the next corner, Schick dived into the lead, but meanwhile Hopkins came from last to third. Hopkins got past Mathie after the downhill whoop section and set his sights on Schick. Smulders had been following Hopkins to the front, but he had a hard time getting around Milbach and John Stewart. Hopkins had Schick in front of him for almost a lap when the YZ250F rider pulled ahead of the leader. Smulders went from fifth to third in two laps and was now on (Left) Eric Weise placed second in the Sportsman class and f"rfth in the 12Scc B class. (Below) Cody Sokolik was victorious in the Mini Junior 80cc class aboard his Suzuki by winning both motos. U Schick's rear fender, as Hopkins quickly pulled away from the field. Mathie fell back to sixth on the last lap. Smulders and Schick got into a tight battle on the last lap; Schick came out on top. Hopkins got the big win. Schick was second, ahead of Smulders. Stewart and Milbach rounded out the top five. Jeremi Smith got to the inside first, ahead of Schick and Mathie, in the second moto. Hopkins tangled with a rider out of the gate and got to the first corner last. Smulders got a midpack start, behind Craig Wallace. Hopkins immediately worked his G.'E:~~'1 way through the pack, keeping the rev-limiter popping on his fourstroke. Schick got into the lead by the end of the first lap and Smulders worked his way past Mathie in the switchbacks on lap two. Hopkins used every line available to move up - inside, outside, plowing right on through to get into third by the halfway point and setting his sights on front-runners Smulders and Schick. Smulders passed Schick on the infield double coming into the corner for the lead on the final lap.
