CMC Northwest Summer Motocross Series Round 6: Albany Motorsports Park (Above left) Joshua Hili scored overall wins In the 80cc (7-11) and Supermini classes on both days of the series doubleheader at Albany Motorsports Park. (Above) At round six of the CMC Northwest Summer Motocross Series, Will Wallace topped Saturday's FourStroke Amateur class with a 2-1 score aboard his KTM 520 Sx. STORY AND PHOTOS BY CLAY LIGHT ALBANY, OR, JULY 14-15 awasaki-mounted Joshua Hill was king of the hill at the Albany Motorsports Park, site of round six of the CMC Northwest Summer Motocross Series. Hill soared to new heights aboard his KX85, maneuvering the massive double and triple jumps that only the Pros were jumping en route to his 80cc (9-11) and Supermini-class victories on both days of the Supercross doubleheader. The ll-year-old from LaCenter, Washington, won every moto he contested on the weekend. Only southern Oregon speedster Jordan Mockridge could keep Hill in his sights. In Saturday's Supermini contests, H ill got the holeshot in both motos and placed 10 seconds between himself and fellow KX rider Mockridge in his 1-1 decimation. Mockridge trailed Hill in both motos to snare second overall, ahead of Honda rider Kyle Thompson (3-3), Matt Wilson (5-4) and Curtis Sweezey (4-5). Hill came right back to do a similar number on the 80cc age-group contestants, also dominating the combined field with a 1-1 sweep. Mockridge again trailed Hill, but since both riders were contesting separate age divisions, Mockridge landed a win in the 80cc (14-16) class, behind 80cc (9-11) winner Hill. In the adjoined 80cc (12-13) class, Honda-mounted Jesse Wuori grabbed an overall win via 1-2 finishes. Other two-class winners included Brad Frace, Danny Gubser and Ryan Huege. Frace clobbered the competition in his Pee Wee (7-8) and 50cc Open victories aboard a Cobra. The Kawasaki-mounted Gubser fended off Bradley Hillman for the 60cc Senior win and then slammed the door shut on KTM rider Travis McClinton in the 60cc Open to finalize his two-class sweep. Yamaha rider Ed Smith was also as dominating as Hill, although the 35-year-old only contested a single 40 AUGUST 22, 2001 • cue I (Above) Ed Smith topped the combined Over 30 Pro/Expert class on Saturday in Albany, Oregon. • class on the day. Smith, who was on hand in preparation for the following day's AMA Western Four-Stroke National, used his Yamaha YZ426F to post a 1-1 win in the Over 30 Expert class. Smith's win came ahead of the entire Over 30 Pro class, leading KTM rider Jason Smith and Joe Casey. Several other riders also used Saturday's race to prepare for Sunday's National. KTM rider Will Wallace and Husaberg USA's Rory Sullivan went head to head_ SuJlivan scored a win in moto one but fell while leading moto two and Wallace won out for the overall. While all of the hype on Sunday was about the AMA Four-Stroke National, the day's Amateur program included a similar array of classes. Ryan Thompson was the weekend's most successful rider in the Before The Hill Junior class, winning on both days. Nick Randklev, who stepped off an 80cc machine three months ago, was the weekend's dominant rider in the 125cc Junior class. On Sunday, Randklev swept both motos to cap off his weekend sweep, followed by Nick Nowak (5-2) and Ricky Wuori (2-5) in the 21-rider field. n • _ S In the Supermini class, Hill came back again to hammer the competition for the second day in a row. This time, Hill put even more distance between himself and Mockridge in his double-moto sweep. In the second moto, Hill placed 14 seconds on the runner-up, while Mockridge did much the same to Kawasaki rider Sweezey, the third-place finisher. The younger of the two racing Hill brothers, Justin, was a two-class winner. The Polini rider won the Pee Wee (4-6) and 50cc Open classes, both via 1- 1 placings. In the Pee Wee agegroup contest, Hill led Sierra Bragg and Garrett Christofferson into the top three, while KTM riders Nash Blaylock and Tyler Dailey finished one-two in the Pee Wee (7-8) c1ass_ A large group of four-stroke jockeys assembled in the Four-Stroke Amateur class. Honda-mounted Jimi Blackwell thumped to a double-moto blitz of the class, finishing ahead of Yamaha rider Alex Schon. Husky rider Jake White finished third, followed by BBR-mounted Washingtonians Peter Treadwell and Duane Brown, who rounded out the top five overall. 1:1II ""'ny Motal'spens .....
