IFMA FMXZ Fall Series Rounds 1 -2: America west Arena handlebars, therefore lowering the variation category of his score. On any other nights, Windham's last three IFMA final runs would have been good enough to win. Answer/Skin Industries' "Mad" Mike Jones and Thor/Michael's Reno Powersports-backed Dustin "Scoot" Nate Adams used moves like these sick handstands (left and below) to win both nights in front of his home crowd. STORY AND PHOTOS BY JOEY CASEY/ PRACTICE TRACK MAGAZINE PHOENIX, AZ, AUG. 3-4 he IFMA Series got back underway following a summer layoff, and the riders introduced three more tricks that the series has never seen. Nate "The Destroyer" Adams, from nearby Glendale, showed off his new trick, unofficially called the tsunami (a handstand above the bike) to win both nights. Adams, competing in his first IFMA contest since signing with Fox, went nuts following his winning runs on both nights and threw his jersey into the crowd and did a few more jumps. His Hessian Aggression buddies John and Robert Distler, who also live in nearby Tempe, joined in to form a train. It was a spectacular ending to an incredible show. Adams barely edged out last year's champion, Lamson Porting/ Works Connection's Jake "The Jailor" Windham, who finished a close second on both nights. Windham also had a new trick up his jersey that many believe to be the T 32 AUGUST 22, 2001 • "" U "" I e toughest since the backflip. Windham has yet to name his new trick, but it is very similar to Adams' handstand, except that Windham's handstand drops the bike below him vertically. In simple terms, it's an extended version of a "kiss of death," with Windham's body vertical, in line with the bike. "That trick is going to win me the X-Games," said Windham following his Saturday night performance. And with a good, clean run, it's very possible that Windham's first-ever contest win could be at that ultimate of FMX contests. Saturday night's second-place marked Windham's third consecutive runner-up finish in IFMA competition, and was also quite controversial. It appeared Windham had a clean run, while Adams' final jump of the night was a dead sailor (no trick). Tandy Adams (Nate's dad) pointed at Windham, who sat in the Hot Seat and said, "You got it)" It was a surprise to many when Adams' score was announced as being higher, but Windham doesn't do tricks over the n e _ s Miller swapped third- and fourthplace finishes on the weekend. Miller landed a cliffhanger to no-hander landing on Saturday, but couldn't land the trick smooth and almost hit the wall of the arena floor. In the process, Miller stalled the bike, costing him a possible winning score. Following Jones' run on Friday, the crowd wasn't happy that his score was lower than Miller's. Perhaps the judges didn't like the fact that Jones (Below) Points leader Dustin Miller does a seat-grab Indian Air on his way to thirdand fourth-place finishes on the weekend.
