At the checkers, it was Robinson with the win, with Couto getting around RitzIer for a close second. Cole and Melhom rounded out the top five. Couto bolted out of the gate in mo~ two to lead Ritzier, Tommy Martin and Cole. Martin slipped back a couple of positions while Cole crashed his way to the back of the pack. Robinson climbed up into third place. Couto put in a flawless ride. leading every lap to go 2·1 for the overall. Ritzier held off Robinson for the runner·up finish, but Robinson's 1-3 tally topped the 3·2 score of Ritzier for the second· place trophy. Martin went 6-4 for fourth. fol· lowed by the 8·6 score of Andrew Rosta. YZ250-mounted John Keefer was untouch· able in the first Vet Novice mota after absconding with the holeshot. Bob Wood came from out of the pack to get around Willy Galinato on the white-flag lap for a secondplace finish. Things were a bit tougher for Keefer in mota two, as Wood dogged him right from the opening lap. Wood couldn't find a way around Keefer, but Keefer couldn't pull away, either. and at the finish it was Keefer by just a couple of bike lengths for a sweep of the class. Geoff Naylor put in a couple of good come· from· behind efforts to go 4·3 for third overall. ahead of Galinato (3·6). Gary Ivin was the runaway winner in the opening Vet Beginner mota. Greg Stacy held off Gena Carigan for a second-place finish, with Mark Pacheco slipping past Robert Dickie on the final circuit for fourth. Things changed in mota two once the sun had set and the lights had come on, as Pacheco went wire to wire for the win. Ivin had his hands full with Dickie, Carigan and Stacy but managed to go 1-3 for the overall. Stacy's 2-4 score claimed third, behind the 4-1 score of Pacheco. (Hon). 25... AM: 1. JUNE 23 At the Tru-Tec-sponsored round of California Racing Club·s Saturday night motocross at los Angeles County Raceway, Andrew Couto split mota wins with Keith Robinson for the 80cc Beginner-class overall honors. Tim Ritzier had the quickest reaction time out of the gate to lead Couto and Christian Melhorn early in moto one. By the completion of lap one, Couto was out front, with Robinson and Chadd Cole in third and fourth, respec· tively, behind RitzIer.
