Wa nting to keep the bike as pristine as poss ible for laPorte, my goal was to still ge t him to ride th e bik e so m eti me afte rward , bu t we j u s t c o u ld n' t get o ur schedu le s to c o n ne ct, so th e b ike sat in my ga rag e look ing prett y fo r 12 months. My brothe r, who had not race d in abou t 12 years , and I end e d u p sharing t he bike at th is yea r' s race, and the 01' RM pe rform ed flawlessl y. O verall , I wa s im p re s s e d by th e wa y the bike pe rformed on the track . The sus pens ion wo rked re markably well (m uc h of whic h had to do with the Wo rks Pe rfo rm a nce Shoc ks ). it co rn ere d okay and the motor was qu ite stron g, but oh how it begged for a powe r-valve - talk a bout no bot tom -e nd (by tod a y ' s standa rd s ). I couldn't help but th ink ju st ho w awe some thi s bike wo uld' ve been in its time. Now I know why I wa s in love with this bike back then ; because it wor k s just as well as I th ou ght it looked back in 19 79 .
