We started out with Yoshimur a's TRS Tri -Oval titanium slip-on with a single exhaust tip outlet (Yoshim ura part # 1115267). Installation was a tad more time-consum ing than install ing a slip -on normally is, but it wasn't really that complicated. The entir e job took about 30 minutes. The only thing that was out of the ordinary was pulling off the seat to get at the wirin g loom underneath it. This was to disconnect the wire that tells the computer that the SET (Suzuki Exhaust Tunin g) is functio ning correctl y. The Yoshimura slip-on's new mid -pipe eliminates the SET valve. Don't tell anyone, but from what we hear, the SET is purely there to get the bike past the EPA noise tests. Shhhhh. Afte r disconne cting the little brown wire under the seat. the SET' s cables were removed so that they weren't getting tangled in anything . Everything else was amazingly easy. The Yoshimura slip-on's fit and finistTare first -rate, everything lined up perfectl y, making installa tion a snap. The pipe has a distinct bark to it, sounding almost exactly like a Yoshimura Superbike sounds on the throttle, but a bit quieter. It's not the quietest pipe out there, but its tone is deep and it doesn't have that annoying raspy sound that Suzukis of old had. As for performance, we couldn' t be happier with Yosh's product. I really didn't know how much horsepow er would be available with just a slip-on, because I was assuming that that the GSX-R was in such a high state of tune to begin with . I figur ed at best it would pick up a horsepower or two at the very top of the rev range, but nothing else. As it tum s out, it mak es more power at every single point on the pow er and torque curves. Th e dyn o chart even shows that the near-perfect stock curves were improved upon with the Yoshimura pipe. You can' t ask for more from a pipe. DynoJet Research Inc . A s for peak power, we got more th an what we ex pecte d P_OU~"" _"""' ..j : " 1IQu,, " ~ : with 15 1.3 hp at 11,400 rpm , ~_.
