The Big Nasty hillclimb just outside of
Boise, ro u nd two of the FMF /North
Ame rican Hillcl imbers Association
(NAHA) Championship HillclirnbSeries.
For the first time in seven years ,
though , no one rnanagedoofflclellyoto
reach the top of the bill. Aptly named
The Big Nasty, the Exhibltion -cla ss
hill at the Owyhee Motorcycle Club's
grounds was th e first hillcl imb at th e
fa c ilit y in 25 years. While The Big
Nas ty was certainly steep, es pecially
near its 4\ Ovfoot crest, the most difficu lt factor to cope with turned out to
be its dry , silty makeup which was
no surprise on a warm summer week en d in the hiqh -desert city. In addi tion , it also changed radically over the
cou rs e of the afternoon , with deep
ruts forming in the silt an d enough dirt
moved to completely fill in the ga p of
a road cut across the hill's face.

Travis Whitlock's 340 feet kept him
hopeful , especia lly considering he had
ta ken the top spot in two other class es - 250cc Exhibition and Open Pro

hill. Still, Beer felt fairly confident.
"I didn 't know if any bo dy was
going to beat me or not," Beer said,
"but the way the hill was falling apa rt,

Bee r's second run got him two feet
closer to the to p, but it didn 't pu t him
over. Still, it comfortably got him the
win over Whitlock - who was unable
to im p rove on his second run giving
Beer a perfect two out of two in th e
class so fa r in the series and a big
chunk of the event's $\ 0 ,000 pu rse.
