ing Hacker and Poovey, but never in position to threaten either one, was Smith. Snyder and Murray were holding fourth and fifth. As the lead riders crossed the line to start the eighth lap, Hacker led Poovey and Smith, with Snyder and Murray starting to drop back. All the riders did not cross the line to start the eighth lap, as Thomas went high in turn four and hit the hay bales and the fence. The race was red-flagged. Thomas got up and was all right, but his bike was too damaged to make the restart. On the restart, Hacker continued to lead the race, but second place was now held by Smith, who had timed the restart perfectly to pass Poovey before turn one. Poovey recovered from his timing error and held on to third as Hacker increased his lead over Smith every lap. When the checkered flag flew at the end of the 18th lap, Hacker had lapped two riders and had a 10-bike lead over Smith and Poovey. Snyder, Creamer, Murray, Eades, Liberty and Veeder rounded out the top 10. After three rounds, Poovey now leads the Formula USA/Sf)( National Dirt Track Series points standings with 102. Snyder is second with 96. Smith is third with 94, and Hacker has 80 to Rich King's 76. King was scheduled to ride the first heat but withdrew to give his ankle (injured at the Plymouth round last week) another day to heal.
