• Jey Sapp continued his domination of the 125cc Beginner class, returning to the win· ner's circle for the third lime in the series after last weekend's runner-up finish behind Michael Ward, whose attempt at two in a row fell flat, as he failed to rally even once in his three outings. Dan Burtz took up the slack on the Bill's Pipes Suzuki with a 2-5-2 tally for second-place honors in this always-competi- tive class. Results 50 (7.8): 1 Dylon EyarlS (Cob). 60 BEG: 1. CA. MAY 27 Honda racer Turbo Reif took home two Proclass victories during the ninth annual Motion Pro/Motowest Memorial Day Championships held at Hollister SVRA. Approximately 400 racers were assembled at the all·natural-terrain Hollister Hills motocross course for what is arguably the biggest race of the year. "We have 20 races and about 400 entries," said event promoter Matt Lorenzo. "It's going to be a very full day of racing.' Team Yamaha racer Ryan Morais came out swinging and posted wins in the first motos of both the I 25cc and 250cc Pro classes, in front of Reif. However. Reif won both second motos in the 125cc and 250cc Pro classes. -I had some bad luck in my second motos," said Morais. "In the 125cc race, my ignition wire somehow got disconnected and my bike turned off, and in the 250s. I got a rear flat tire. I guess it was one of those days but better here than at Loretta's." Another standout during the day was Robert Harold, who piloted a superfast Edge Sports-backed YZ250F. Harold won the 125cc Intermediate and Schoolboy classes, posting four out of four mota wins. Mike Alessi and Dustin Pipes each recorded a pair of championships in the minicycle ranks. Alessi ran away with all four mota in the 85cc (12-13) and Supermini classes, while Pipes almost did the same in the 65cc (9- 11) and 85cc (7-1 J) classes. Pipes. however, did give up one mota - to KTM rider Nick Baker, who won the first 65cc (9-11) moto after Pipes fell and had to play catch-up all moto long. In the end. Pipes retumed to win the all-important second moto for the overall victory. Austin Howell was impressive in one of his first races on an 85cc bike, scoring the win in the 85cc Beginner class. Howell battled it out with Travis Bell all day long. but in the end he recorded the overall victory with a 2-1 showing. Kyle Tigert took the measure of Josh Greco in the Pee Wee wars after the two riders swapped mota wins. This time, Tigert got the nod by virtue of his second-mota victory.
