As th e gate - er, ru bber hose - dropped for th e first rnot o. it was a free-for-a ll into the first tum . with elbows being use d to gai n po sit ion . Br ent Davi s took th e early lead while th e rest of th e pack jockeyed back and fo rth . Craig Mason fell t w ice wh il e t rying t o pass D avis. M ik e Besem er k ept hoping for ano ther fall by Ma son. but at the checkers it was Davis, with M ason ho t on his ta il and then Besem er , on his FSR -prepped XR50. Moto two sta rted simila rly , tho ugh Mason blew by Davi s o n th e deepest p a rt of the whoop section - o n the ins ide of a turn that was lined wit h ha y bales . Afterward, Davis protested th at Mas on had c ut th e track, inside the ba les. T herefore, a 10 -lap Shootou t was run . with Mason taking the ho lesho t and Davis close to him . Mason pulled a big lead and finished we ll ahead of Davis. In rn oto three , FMX r ide r Jesse O lso n pulled th e ho lesh ot . w ith Mason. Brook e Shaw and Davis in hot pursuit. Mason ' s cha in bro k e o n th e third pa s s throu gh th e tre a cherou s whoop s . whic h swa llowe d more tha n a few 50 s. Tw o laps lat er, th at same c hai n got all ta ngl ed up in Olson ' s rear sp ro ck et, and he ca me to a gr ind ing ha lt. Th is put Shaw in th e le ad , but as he lapped ride rs o n lap 10 , he took a tr ip ove r th e bars , and Da vis sped by fo r the w in . Shaw was second , followed by Fast 50 s test pil ot John Boyer. In m ot o four, B esem er ' s quick refl ex es to ok him right to th e fron t of th e pack. Ma son was a cl ose seco nd . Davis, in th ird , was heav i· Iy pr essur ed by Olson . Besem er was sti ll lead ing by lap fiv e, but Ma son was ch arg ing into every tum, with Davi s not far behind. Lap afte r lap, Ma son and Davis slam med through th e whoops, w hil e Be semer wou ld take the two tab let op s i n t o th e bowl turn s. On lap six, Ma so n pa ssed B e sem er for g oo d . Da vi s c ouldn't take seco nd awa y from Bese mer. In the fift h and f ina l rn oto , M a son and Olson e lbow ed e ac h other a s th ey went around tu rns three and four the first t ime. Olson ra iled th e berms before th e tab les as Mas on did th e wh oops. Lap afte r lap , Mason pull ed away from O lson , wh o had t o deal with Davis. W ith all th e scores tallied up , th e overa ll win went to Da vi s. Despite winn ing four out of fi ve motos, Ma so n had to settle for second. (That'll teach him to lube his chain.) .
