With 5-time World Champion Mick Doohan officially retired, the podium was wide open. There were three hot favorites as the season got underway: Honda's defending '99 Champion Alex Criville, Yamaha's Italian star Max Biaggi, and Suzuki's great American hope Kenny Roberts Jr. The caliber of riders competing in 2000 was tremendous and no one was discounting Loris Capirossi or Valentino Rossi, two talented riders making the transition from the 250 series. Add in the white-hot form of Australian Garry McCoy and the stage was set for sixteen rounds of awesome action and on-the-edge racing. History was made with two rounds still to go, when the 27-year-o ld Kenny Roberts Jr. clinched the title and in the process became the first son to emulate his father by winning the world 500cc Championship. This official three hour spectacular catches the drama , excitement and over-the-limit performance of the worlds best riders. With 'm ulti-camera coverage from every round and white-knuckle viewing from the on-bike cameras, this review is a must for every bike sport fan.
