Yarr ow took the initial lead in the race , but his tim e in front wa s brief, as Carrillo sw ept undern eath and to ok over th e lead by th e end of one revoluti on. Meanwhile, back -yardag e veterans Manchester , Fari a and Bast were m ov ing up and putting pr es sure on Fi sher to m ov e around Yarrow, whi ch he did on lap three. O nce Fi sher moved by Yar row , th e entire freight train fil ed p ast , dump in g Yarrow to th e rea r sp ot . Carrill o was th e next to fall to Fisher , g ivi ng away th e lead as his bike unc ha racteristically sputtered o n the last lap . Once Fisher put his Cod y Racin g Ja wa out front. the battie was for seco nd place, whi ch Man chester won , in front of Faria and Ba st . Fi sher ' s luck wa s not qu it e as good in the Scratch m ain. Th e personable young veteran wa s the last out of the starti ng gates, he could not keep the fro nt end on the ground. and he end ed his evening's work w ith hi s 500cc roc k et hang ing from the tum-two fence. Fish er was di squalified for causing th e red flag , and on th e restart Faria jumped to the early lead on hi s Ka ssman Raci ng GM , a nd th e Sc ratch ma in was all but over.
