Hacking k ept pu shin g right to the fl ag, but Yates had th e adva ntage just to ppi ng him. He'd been tak en out in tu m five wh en Roberts' bra k es fa iled and he ran into him, but he was mostly fine, j ust shaken , h is elbow a little sore f ro m be ing h yper -extend ed . It took him a few laps to get on track and by th en the leaders were away . A few m ore laps and he was by himself after an early battle with Gobert and his Yam aha teammate Tommy Hayden . "All I wa s trying to do was trying to break awa y fro m [A nt ho n y ] Gobert and that little pac k that we were in: Hopk in s sai d . Going into the downhill turn five at the end of the long back straight, he reac hed for the front brakes and had nothing. "I was pump ing it and then I was trying to p ick a hole and th e onl y way I could go was here and I was just try ing to ge t it st o p ped enough to when I ran off I wasn 't go ing to hit an ything : Rob erts said of the second la p incident. " I wa sn't trying to stuff anybody , i t w a s just that I had no bra k es an d I was pu m p ing it and it f inally started t o work and then dumped th e clutch and then he [Hop k ins] turned in ." There were gearbox problems on the restart that caused him to lose touch an d fight through , finall y getting Gobert wi th two laps to go.
