Michael &tf!ttlan Seattle Intern ational Raceway Dugan Digs In By S IMON-PIERRE S MITH SPO KANE, WA, MAY6 J ohn Dugan scored a runa way win in 750cc Sup erbike competitio n at Spokane Raceway Par k in the Washington Motorcycle Road Rac ing Associ ation's second race of the season. Saturday's test session saw riders usi ng tall gearing to ta ke a dvantage of the stro ng winds blo wing down the fro nt straight. Bus - tJes of activity in c hecking ra in tires co uld be seen whe never one of the occasional snow flurries struck. All this preparation was wast edt as Sunday dawn ed w ith m ild. calm and sunny sk ies . Dugan, always a fas t sta rter, too k the lead off th e line on his Eric Dorn -pr ep ar ed GSXR750 . By the e nd of the first la p, he 'd built a five -second lead ove r Michael Castro a nd Jeff Schults, J ace Botten berg , on a Yam ah a R6 , was putti ng his Circuit One su sp ensi o n to the test as he carved up th rough the pac k, By lap thr ee , Bottenbe rg had forc ed his lighte r but und erpowe red 600 up to second place, with Duga n a sa fe 10 se conds ah ead . The fight for third was where th e acti on was , as five rid ers ra n lik e a frei ght tr a in a round the track , ea ch striving to be the loco motive, no ne willing to be the ca bo ose. With his light weight and the cultured pow er of his Aprilia Mille R, he started to dis patch rider s at th e rate of one per lap. His Aprilia , pr epa red by Beaud ry Mot orspo rt s , had broke n free of the othe r rider s a nd started to puli away from the pa ck with two la ps to go .
