Upcoming Rounds: Round 5 - Joplin, Missouri, June 2 Round 6 - Hagerstown, Maryland, June 16 BRIEFLY• •• For Tommy Hayden . the Springfield n win was an improbable dream come true. "I really wasn't going to do this race. He's [Nicky] the one who talked me into it." said Tommy. ' I felt I didn't have time to fool with It. right in the middle of our [road race] season . I'm glad I did now. I had so much fun today. hopefully it' ll carry over to my road racing. It feels good. that's for sure." Nicky Hayden had mixed feelings. "I hear people saying he ITommyJ won because he was on a 426. but I see a lot of 426's in the pits that weren't in the main." Nicky said. "No excuses, I got beat. not because of the bike. I'm sure it's special for him. I'm happy to see him win. I know it's a dream - he never really got a good shot to win one before. and I know he could have. I real· Iy wanted to win the n and load the bases andwin the Grand Slam, but alter yesterday. to come back and get on the box. I've got to be happy. I rode as hardas I could and then some." 34 JUNE 6, 2001 • cue I e n e vv so
