Loretta Lynn's National MX Championship North-Central Area Qualifier BOD MX Park "Look Out, Loretta" By In 12 5c c Band 125c c (1 2 -1 5) Stock competition, Adam Rob ins on and Kyle Preston p layed a b ig -b o y version Miller and T ick l e ' s gam e . Yamaha -mounted Rob inson a n d Suzuki jockey Preston clashed in all four motos of both classes. Preston scored a 2-1 fin ish for the overa ll 125cc ( 12 -1 5) Stock win . Robinson 's 1-3 moto score garnered the second po dium spot. Kenny Dal e Orr, in his first year of 125cc competition , used a 3 -2 score for a solid th ird place. In the 125cc B class, Robinson and Preston swapped first - and second -place moto fin ishes, with Ro b inso n grab b in g the wi n i n moto two and the overa ll class cha mpion ship. Sunday at 800 MX Park was Cod y M ill er Day . E v en though he didn ' t m an a g e t o take a full four -moto sweep in 6 5cc Modified and 85cc (913) Modi fied compe tition , he t oo k ho me the championship in both class es by ho lding off Tickle in the 65 cc showdown and Ohio's Joey Leadbeat er in the 85cc co nt est. M ill er , from Franklin, Kentucky , dug down d eep and cam e from second-spot fini shes in the first motos of both cl ass es to defeat Tickle and Leadbeater. Matthew Gow of Howell , Minnesota , cam e south to make his mark - and that he d id . He wayla id the pa ck in three of four motos to ta k e th e ov erall wins in both the 85cc Mo dified (1415 ) and Superm in i cla sses. Sh an e O'Banion , a K entuc k y la d, pestered Gow in the two classes, but, with grit and determination, the Minnesotan held off all comers and headed back north with two well -dese rv ed wins. When Mat Perales of Di ckson , T en nes see, is in his groove, he 's not on ly hard to kee p up with , he's hard to beat. Su ffering from arm pump in the first 125cc Mod i fi ed rnoto , Perales backed off a to uch and let Kentucky 's Brandon Moore take the first spot. In moto t wo, Per al es pa c ed h i mself. Met with temperatures in the 40 s, a biting north win d, and a 1.7 -mile long track, those who came found themse lves challenged by Mother Nature, the circuit, an d th e competition. On S a t u r d a y , Jake F o w l er , Z a c h a r y Maggert and J acl y n n e Abrecht accepted th e challenge of the m assive track and piloted th eir Yama ha Shaft 50 s around its expansive ci rcuit. Ab rech t took t he early lea d in m oto one , with Maggert and Fowl er in cl o se pursui t. After what m ust have seemed an ete rn ity, Abrech t crossed th e chec kers in first, Maggert in second, and Fow ler in th ird. Abrecht experienced problems in moto t wo, and she finished fourth . Maggert held on to a consistent second, and Fowler rose to the occasion an d took the win . When all was tal lied, Fowler took the overall 51cc (46 ) class win , w ith Maggert second an d Abrecht dropping to th ird . Kentucky 's Co dy Miller and North Carolina 's Broc T ickle began bang in g heads during Sat u rd ay ' s Stock classes , and t h ey d idn 't qu it until Su nd ay ' s Mod ifi ed cl asses were in the books. Taking on each other and 3 9 other competitors in the com bined 65cc ( 10 -11 ) and 85cc (7 - 1 1) cl asses, Miller and Tickle swapped p l a c e s l i k e p ieces on a checkerb o ard. Satu rday was Tickle 's day . Miller co uld n't qu ite find his ride and f in i sh ed t h ird i n t h e 6 5cc clas s, behind T ickle and Illinois' Ky le Co rm an. In the 85cc class, Mill er chased Ti ckl e bu t co uldn 't seem to find a line tha t allow ed a pass . T ickle to ok both m otos and th e overall wins in 65cc and 85cc cl asses. Moore held on to sec on d , with Brandon Durbeck taking the third podium spot. Buddy Akers of Mansfie ld , Ten nessee , has been racing for ever. Ma ybe it j ust seems that way . Contes ting the Over 50 class, Akers pu t on the show of a lifetime by passing , b eing passed by , repassing , be ing passed by , and r e p a s s i n g again Byron Morgan of Louisvill e , Kentuc k y , for the overall victory . After his win , an elated Akers, who is normally reserved , hugged the sco rekeepe rs , the announcer , and various other people he'd never met. "I t's been four or five years since I've won a race," he exclaimed. "T h is is great. Th is is great.
