AMA vice president for govemment relations, said Bosworth is known as a man of integrity who has been a friend of responsible off-highway recreation and multiple uses of forest land during his 30year career. "We're looking forward to an open dialogue with the new Forest Service chief." Moreland added. Bosworth most recently served as regional forester for the Forest Service's Northem Region. which includes northem Idaho, northeastem Washington. Montana. North Dakota and northwestern South Dakota. Bosworth also has served as regional forester in the Intermountain Region that primarily includes southern Idaho. western Wyoming. Utah and Nevada. and deputy regional forester in the Pacific Southwest region, which covers California, Hawaii. Guam and the Trust Territories in the Pacific. A second-generation forester and Forest Service employee. Bosworth also has worked as a forest supervisor and district ranger. He eamed his bachelor's degree in forestry from the University of Idaho in 1966. He succeeds Mike Dombeck, who retired as Forest Service chief on March 31. The U.S. Forest Service manages public lands in the national forests and grasslands. The agency has more than 30.000 employees and a budget of $4.6 billion. It manages about 191 million acres of public land nationwide. an area equal to the state of Texas. Vintage Iron has announced that it is teaming up once again with Yamaha to present the Yamaha Race of Champions. or YROC as it has become known. The event will be part of the fourth annual Vintage Iron World Championship weekend slated for June 21 -24 at Glen Helen Raceway in San Bemardino Califomia. and will be televised on Speedvision in a one-hour program. The YROC formula pits former racing stars against one another on identically prepared Yamaha yz models. This year's running will include 12 past heroes all taking tums on the 125. 250F, 250 and 426F YZ machines. Confirmed riders include last year's defending YROC champion Broc Glover, runner-up Mike "Too Tall" Bell, Marty Moates, Gary Jones, Jim Holley, Jim Gibson. Ron Lechien. Marty Smith. Tire Wars 101: Pirelli has sent out a press release to let everyone know that they have taken the early lead in the 2001 FIM World MX Championship tire wars. and Mickael Pichon and Stefan Everts are part of the reason why. Pichon has won both of the first 250cc rounds in Spain and Holland; at Holland's Valkenswaard, he was on Pirelli's MT32a soft·intermediate front tire and MT44 soft rear for the sandy track. Everts, coming back to form after almost two years out of action. won the opening 500cc round in Spain and took second at Valkenswaard also on the MT44 rear - to lead the early 500cc class points. Everts also won the latest GP in Australia. Among those scheduled to appear are Mike Jones, Dustin Miller, Nate Adams, Jimmie McGuire. John and Robert Distler and Jake Windham. According to a press release issued on behalf of CCS road race director Kevin Elliot. the Championship Cup Series has seen a dramatic increase in the number of CCS licenses issued to riders from last year's inaugural season with SFX Motorsports on board as the promoter. The follOWing are year-to-date figures. representing a 34.8-percent increase from 2000. licenses issued to riders from CCS in 2001 - 2654; licenses issued to riders from CCS in 2000 1970. "This increase of 684 licenses in 2001 represents an increase of 34.8 percent to date." Elliot said. "I would like to thank everyone who has had a hand in this.
