place finish between them at County Une MX, site of round one of the Southeastern Motocross Series by Century 21 Gulf Coast Realty and Jet Wheels of Panama Beach. More than 200 riders were on hand. Tucker Rocky-backed Stephens, hampered by poor starts due to clutch problems, chased the lead, ers all day. His efforts paid off, as he made wh-lning passes late in all four motos of the 125cc C and Youth classes. Honda/Yamalia of Montgomery's Mason made his first trip to County Une a winning one. When heavy favorite Cole Boutwell did not finish the first Supermini moto, Mason took the win. Boutwell salvaged his day with the second~moto win, good for fifth overall, but Mason garnered the overall victory with his 1·2 punch. Mason also placed second to Boutwell in 80cc Bracing. Clint Stagner got the first 125cc C moto holeshot, followed by Dannie Cotilla and Brandon Rast. Cotilla challenged for the lead, but fell in the hairpin turn on lap three. Stephens worked his way to second and then passed Stagner on the last lap for the win. Chad Williams finished third, ahead of KX rider Chris Scott. In race two, Stagner and Cotilla ran up front again. On the first lap, Cotilla took a spill and was pinned under his Yamaha for several seconds. Stephens moved in behind Stagner and made a pass with just half a lap to go. Buck Hartzog rounded out the top three. Ryan Kradel and Clinton Arnold put their YZ125s out front in the first Youth heat. Stephens passed Kradel in the back section and then went after the leader. He caught Arnold and stole the win with two turns to go. Matt Hamilton had a solid ride for third, ahead of Rion Baker. Stephens' best start of the day was third in heat two. Arnold and Kradel were leading again. Stephens went under Kradel in a banked left-hander for second. It took the rest of the race for him to reel in Amold. Stephens used an inside pass over a camel·hump jump to secure his fourth win. Kradel held third, over Baker. Mason absconded with the holeshot in the first Supermini moto, ahead of Cole Cherpak and Boutwell. Mason lost the lead when Boutwell passed him through the whoops near the end of lap one. Boutwell held the point for less than a lap before his machine rolled to a halt on the upper portion of the track. Mason moved back out front and pulled away for the win. Cherpak was second, with Sean Collins finishing just ahead of KX-mounted Stephen Rawls. Boutwell passed Cherpak coming out of tum two in the second moto. Mason was the only other rider to get around Cherpak. On his way to the win, Boutwell launched his YZ80 over the infield triple, a rare feat for a mini rider at County Une. Mason was second, and Cherpak's 2-3 eamed him second overall. Results P/W (4-6): I. Evan Smith (Cob); 2.....ustln Bearden (Cob); 3. William Wah!r5 (KTM); 4. Dentin Hendrickson (Yam); 5. Log Road Motocross in second place. Auten rode home in third. Sewell and Corey Slavick were fourth and fifth, respectively, after Moreland got out of shape and went down on lap three. Sixth place went to Eric Miller, who was making his move into the 85cc (12-15) class after two consecu· tive 85cc (7-11) class Michigan state champi- onships. Wayne Dennis was seventh, More· land rebounded to finish eighth, Adam Behringer was ninth, and Scott Kobeck locked up 10th. In moto two, Litchle was again out front from the get-go, and he never gave the boys in the 85cc (12-15) class a chance, roaring to an insurmountable lead on the first lap of the race. Miller was second out of the hole, wi.th Slavik, Smith and Auten In tow. On lap two, Miller went backward as Slavik, Smith and Auten went at it, trying desperately to close in Litchle Lights Up Log Road MX By BART NEWMAN BRONSON, MI, MAR. 25 Josh Litchle proved that his 2000 Loretta Lynn's Championship was no fluke as he dominated the 85cc (12-15) actIon at Log Road MX's Michigan Spring Fling kick-off. More than 280 riders were nuts enough to brave the arctic blast with which Mother Nature greeted them, with winds gusting up to 25 mph and temperatures in the teens, to vie for the manufacturers' contingencies. Litchle rIpped off great start, piloting his F&S Suzuki RM80 to a convincing holeshot. Aaron Smith was second, holding off T.J Auten, Grant Moreland and Shane Sewell. Utchle quickly pulled out a commanding lead that would grow until the checkered flag appeared in the flagman's hands. Auten and Smith battled back and forth until lap three, when a small bobble by Auten was all Smith needed to park his Grace Performance Honda on Litchle. Smith got around Slavik with a great move in the switchbacks. Shortiy after that, Auten made his way around Slavik and set sail after Smith. Utchle took the win with nearly a 25-second lead. Auten was all over Smith, fighting for the runner-up spot. Auten made the pass happen in the black-dirt sec- tion to lock up second in the moto and second overall. Smith was a strong third. Slavik rode well and held off Moreland to finish fourth in the moto as well as overall. Moreland had a tough first moto but capped it off with fifth in moto two for sixth overall. Making up the top 10 were Miller, Sewell, Dennis, Behringer and CN Kobeck. Results P/W (4-6) SHAFT: 1. Jacob Behringer (Yam); 2. Alex Ditton (Yam); 3. Austin Wagner (Yam): 4. Kyler Jimenez (Yam); 5.
