Once again, the track supervisors did a great job of cutting out the worst mudholes to reduce the number of burned~out clutches and exhausted riders. Sunday morning dawned with a mercifully clear sky. When the Pros took off, Mark Weeks shot into the lead, but he was soon passed by Dean Lane and Hadyn Franklin, who like muddy courses. Lane and Franklin battled for first, and perennial leader Clay Hoenshell hung back in fourth. Soon after beginning the third lap, HoensheJl passed Franklin for a short time, but Franklin reeled him in and took back the lead. At the finish, it was Moose/Cycle Town KTM/Michelin-backed Franklin ahead of Hoenshell, taking back the overall points lead for the Pro class. Mystie Weeks and Stacy Reddish also had a close battle in the Ladies Amateur class. They stayed close throughout the race and finished several minutes ahead of the rest of the class. WhiJe Reddish came in second in this race, she still holds a slim lead over Weeks in the overall points. In the 250cc Amateur class, it was a tight race between Billy Beer, Travis Osteen, Bryan Tuttle and Brian Reedy. They switched back and forth throughout each of their four laps, but on the last lap Beer pulled out in front for the win, maintaining his points lead. In the Over 40 Intermediate class, Rick Price managed to gain about one minute per lap to thoroughiy beat his closest competitors, Russell Weeks, Roger Geary, Scott Winn and William Rick. In Saturday's races, the Pee Wee track was muddier than the big-bike track ended up being. Many of the small Pee Wee bikes were buried in the mud in the worst spots and had to be lifted out by spectators and officers on 64 APRIL 18, 2001 • cue •• n e _ s
