Crittendon, the son of Murray Supercross owners Richard and Sherry Crittendon, chewed up the Kentucky clay in both the 80cc Senior and Supermini contests. He finished on the podium in both classes, taking top honors in 80ce Senior competition and the second podium spot in the Supermini class. Garrison had his four-stroke KTM wound tight in the Over 25 and 250cc A classes. Taking no prisoners and feeling no guilt, Garrison barked his way through the Over 25 class and left the rest of the troops to sniff the fumes of his orange KTM. In the 250cc A contest, J.orllan Moneymaker and Derek Smith didn't quite know what to do with Garrison as they tangled with him throughout the main. Suffering severe arm pump in the latter laps of the main, Garrison surrendered to his pain and slid back to third, leaving Moneymaker to take the win and Smith to secure second. Results 50 (4-8): I. Murray Supercross Orr Opens Another Door By DAVID AND JESSICA SCREWS MURRAY, KY, MAR. 17 Suzuki of Paris/Chris Grissom Racing-sponsored Kenny Dale Orr scored an eighth-place finish in the Supermini class at Loretta Lynn's 2000 Amateur Nationals. In 2001, he's stepped up a class and is now wreaking havoc with the 125s. In mid-March, he made his presence known at Murray Supercross and showed the competition that he's as much a threat on his new Suzuki as he was on his 85. Contesting the 125cc B class, Orr gave front-runner Chris Brill all he could handle in the heat and the main. Orr stayed on the taB of BrB!,s blue bike but couldn't quite outmaneuver the seasoned Brill. When the checkers flew, Brill had first, Orr was second, and Shane Kissair placed third. In the Schoolboy class, Orr laid waste to the entire field as he found his trademark fluid style atop his new 125 and flowed to an easy victory over the rest of the pack. Three other racers - Logan Pollard, Ben Crittendon and Mark Garrison - came out to the Murray Supercross season opener and notified the competition that they were going to be a force to be reckoned with during the 2001 season. Pollard, a 50cc menace for the last few years, smoked the class at Murray. Then, with his youthful intensity focused, he fought to a f1fth~spot finish in the 60cc class. Grittin' and gearin' his KX65, Pollard ran with the big boys, finishing behind front-runners Nick Jackson, Zack Thompson, Cory Jones and Brock Moran. 68 APRIL 11, 2001 • cue I e Ramage Does Some Damage By JOHN BETHEA SAN JACINTO, CA, MAR. 23 Former professional racer Lee Ramage returned to motocross after nearly 15 years of 'doin' other things," and it looked like he hasn't missed a beat, as he swept al1 three Vet Intermediate motos at the second round of the FMF Friday Night Series at Competition Park. Best remembered by fans for rolling his pickup at the tower end of Carlsbad Raceway's drag strip while returning to the pits after a qujck trip to town between motos back in the early 1980s, Ramage easily won the first two events on this night and was trailing fellow Yamaha racer Tim Tucker in the third moto when the leader crashed on lap four, giving Ramage, a former San Diego police officer, his third race win of the evening. Friday night Vet Beginner regular Syd Woods did not get his customary holeshots, and he could not get in the groove in either the first or second moto, in which he finished second and fourth, respectively. Woods won the final moto, but it was too late; Craig Koback, who rode a Honda to the overall last week in the series opener, this week used a Suzuki to repeat, Tony Bootsma brought his series win streak to two as well when he swept the 125cc Beginner class. Last week's runner-up, Suzuki jockey Travis Hawkins, held the same honors this time out, and the closest the Chaparral-sponsored rider could get to Tony's Kawasaki was when he got to within two bike lengths during the first moto en' route to a 2-4-3 showing. For the second week in a row, Montclajr Yamaha's Ernie Sanchez held his fellow 250cc Beginners at bay for all three motos. Each time out, Suzukimounted Kyle leDuc ran second and Yamaha rider Ben Tolbert was third. Kawasaki jockey Justin Hommel performed a similar sweep, again topping previous series winner Tommy Madden in the 60cc Beginners class. The only other two riders to repeat with overall wins were Honda riders Bruce Marada in the 80cc (12·13) class and Tom Thomsen in the Vet Junior class. CN Results 50 (4-6): I.
