DAYTONA BEACH, FL, MAR. 8
mateur flat track racers from all
over the country flocked to the
2001 Southeast Regional Championship races. There were two events
on the Volusia Speedway Park halfmile and two at Daytona's Municipal
Stadium short track. With classes for
riders from age four to 70 and over
800 entries, there were long da ys at
the track.
Young Travis Myers made off with
the most hardware as he nearly swept
the 85cc (7 -11) and 85cc DTX classes. The first day at the Stadium, the
Breckenridge, Michigan, youngster
finished third in the 85cc (7-11)
main, for the only blemish on his
week. Travis loaded seven first-place
trophies into his van.
The 250cc, 505cc and 600cc
classes were super competitive, with
all three classes fielding a wealth of
young, talented riders. Honeybrook,
Pennsylvania's Jared Mees socked
away a large snare of the gold by taking the 600cc class at the first halfmile and at both short tracks. He also
grabbed the 505cc win at the second
short track and the 250cc win at the
last half-mile.
