both Pederson ~nd Rimes and moving up to
third. Then Monjaras set his sights on Bode,
finally getting past him on the fourth lap. Prida
took the mota win, with Monjaras, Bode,
Pederson and Rimes rounding out the top five.
The second moto belonged to Bode; he
nailed the holeshot and ran away with the
moto victory. Prida finished second, followed
by Monjaras. James ~nd Rimes.
The Open Cash class welcomed the retum
of MSR-backed Joe Bob Ebers, who has been
recovering from a severe back injury that
benched his racing program late last year.
Ebers looked like his old self as he took the
first-moto holeshot and disappeared into the
Sherwood Forest section of the track. When
he reappeared, he was chasing after AMA Pro
Todd Downs, who was starting to pull a slight
lead. The IMS/Maxima/Pro Grip/Cycra/KTMbacked Downs went on to take a pair of moto
wins and the overalL Ebers finished second in
the first moto, in front of Suzuki KTM of
McAllen/Tucker Rocky-backed Monjaras, on
his KTM 125 SX.
The second mota belonged to Downs. He
took the outside line for the holeshot. Downs
looked b~ck in midair over the triple for his
competition, but he soon disappeared with 8
huge lead. Monjaras and Ebers were left to
fight for second; Monjaras came out the winner. To celebrate his victory, Downs whipped
his KTM 520 SX for the large crowd over the
timing-tower tabletop.
Other top performers of the day included
Ken Nelson, Charlie Lugo and wild man
Michael Brock, who had a scary loopout on
the facility's largest jump. resulting in a 200foot ghost ride. Amazingly. Brock and his
RM250 survived the incident.
