(LefQ Gibson won Friday's Dash for Cash. Tuf Racing's Jeff Willoh finished second on a Honda, followed by Monterrey, Mexico's Pedro Gonzales on a St. Louis Powersports Kawasaki. Gonzales grabbed the holeshot the 250cc main event and moved away from the rest of the field for the win. "It went pretty good tonight," Gonzales said. "I'm so happy right now. I tried to put a little gap between Buddy and I so I could ride my own race." Antunez was the runner-up, followed by Carrollton Kawasaki's Josh Demuth. In the Dash for Cash, a pot of cash (collected from fans during intermission and totaling over $600) went to Antunez's teammate Jeff Gibson. Darcy Lange took his Kawasaki to second, followed by Demuth. One of the weekend's highlights for the fans is the jump-off contest, and the riders went off for the public, pulling cordovas, no-footed can cans, Superman airs and other sick maneuvers that would make Travis Pastrana proud. Mike Mason was the winner on his Honda, with Demuth and Daniel Blair completing the podium SATURDAY With a fifth title within his grasp, Antunez had the look of a warrior at the 125cc main-event start, but it was his teammate Gibson taking the holeshot. It wasn't long before the "Bud Man" made his way to the lead, however. and Antunez took it in the second tum, just before a huge double. As he soar~d through the air, Antunez looked back at his cohort as if to say, "The championship is mine!" Gibson stayed on Antunez's tail throughout the race, finishing second. Most of the riders pretty much rode in the positions they started off in, but Demuth fought through the pack following a mediocre start, finishing 'an impressive third. In the quarter-liter race, Gonzales grabbed the holeshot and never looked back, taking the victory ahead of teammate Denny Stephenson, who once again gave the best post-race interview when he said he would be taking the trophy girl home with him (he is married to Miss Arenacross, Michelle Stephenson). Third was Plano Honda/MSR's Ivan Tedesco. With his title secure, Antunez faded to sixth place. In the Dash for Cash, Stephenson fought off a hard-charging Gonzales to take home the money (along with the trophy girl). Tedesco was third over Gibson. Mason repeated his victory in the jump-off contest, with Demuth second and Harold Hageman taking third. _ NshnItl AueciaIes 1IIlIl..... eeu.eu. Plano Honda/MSR's Ivan Tedesco and Pro CircuitiKawasaki/SplitAre's Casey Lytle were both in action in Oakland. The next round of the National Arenacross Series will be held at Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It will be the first time that a National Arenacross will make a stop in Albuquerque, though the venue has hosted Ultracross racing with good success. Travis Hodges won't have to travel far to get to this one, as the series regular resides in Albuquerque and will no doubt be the local favorite. In Albuquerque. just-erowned Arenacross Champion Buddy Antunez will be looking to break his own single-season race-win record. Right now, Antunez has 26 wins this year, so he'll be IOoklng for win number 27 in Albuquerque to break the record. cue I _ n __ • • MARcH 28. 2001 19
