Marion Indoor Coliseum By RUPERT X. PEllETT MARION, OH, FEB. 17 Uving up to his reputation as one of Ohio's fast young Pros, New Philadelphia's Thomas Kelley took home lots of green after being absolutely spectacular at this Saturday night event, round 19 of promoter Tab Thompson's AMS Ohio Arenacross Series. At this final weekend of the series, Kelley had his Buckeye Cycle-backed Suzuki on cruise control - though at a very high rate of speed - as the talented young man spanked the field to take home the pots of gold in both the 125cc and 250cc Pro classes. In the 125cc A class, Kelley distanced himself from second-placed Josh Hamilton and third-placed Dickie Hoy with some blinding speed through the fast and tricky whoop section, and he took the checkers with room to spare. In the 250cc A race. Kelley stomped the field again, while Joey Lewis ran strong for • second and Chuck Nicholson took third. Faststarting Steve Andrich, on his MPS-backed Honda CR250, ran into trouble and finished fourth. While Kelley was laying waste to the Pro classes, one couldn't help but wonder when Nathan Skaggs will be stepping up to join the Expert-class ranks. Skaggs, seemingly one of Ohio's faster Amateur-ranked riders, was unstoppable in Marion. He stole three class wins on his Yamahas. Skaggs ruled both the 125cc and 250cc B classes and the very competitive 16-24 class as well. Paul Johnson was once again all over the 125 C class; the native of Monclava, Ohio. was on the fuel, and he took the win on his Honda. Local boy Rustie Goddard used his familiarity with the course to whip up on the 250cc C group, stomning away with the firstplace award aboard his Yamaha YZ25O. F&S Suzuki's Derrick Arledge was once again one of the fast kids. This very talented young speedster from Laurelville, Ohio, was on top of his game as he handily conquered the Schoolboy class aboard his RM125. Shawn Rife proved he's another fast District 11 kid to keep your eyes on as he smoked the field of 50cc (7-8) youngsters, screaming around the track on his King Cobra 50. While Tyler Bowers was once again victorious in the 65cc (7-9) and 80cc (7·11) divisions, Levi Kilbarger powered his KTM 65 SX home for the 65cc (10-11) class victory. Canadian Jeff Coles stormed off with the Over 25 and Over 40 class wins, while Trenton, Ohio's Chad "Ice" Walker, on his trusty KTM 520 SX, won the always-fast Over 30 class. Portsmouth's Perry Hoover ran off with the 80cc (9-13) win, besting class favorite Zach Ames, though Ames came back to take the 80cc (12-15) victory on his RM80. CN Results 50 (4-6): 1.
