"It was one of those things where the last lap, we were stopped up on the banking, we were cruising along," Pridmore said. "I decided that I wanted to race to the finish. I didn't want to have it just end like that. I was totally convinced that if I got second I was going to be proud or if I won I was going to be proud.' Alexander crossed the line about 11 seconds later, all by himself. On the eighth lap he'd made a mistake going onto the West Banking which sent him onto the grass. "We lost a lot of time. Just totally blew it there," he said. Then he hit a lapper in the first horseshoe and was watching his gap over Jimmy Moore dwindle. "I was closing on Richie," Moore said. "I gave it my best and came up just a little short.' Moore finished about 1.5 seconds behind Alexander. Fifth went to Hooters Suzuki's Brian Gibbs. Gibbs had run with Moore for a while before falling off the pace and settling into a safe fifth. Like Spies, Gibbs was riding hurt. The Georgian had injured his right hand in a boxing accident and was wearing a cast until two weeks ago. The hand was numb at the halfway point. "I just couldn't feel the brakes, and counter-steering the bike in righthand comers was real tough.' Sixth through eighth flashed across the line in a blur, Tuff Dog's Alan Schmidt beating Peter Brady's John Ashmead, and Bells Suzuki's John Jacobi by a few tenths. Vincent Haskovec was a close ninth on the EBSCO Suzuki, with Charles Chouinard edging out Daigoro Suzuki for 10th. The top 27 finishers, and all but four of the finishers, were Suzuki GSX-R750 mounted. eN II8ytMa IIItIIrutIaMl Speedw8y _ _ 1Iuch, Flori. llesults: Ibn:h S, ZUUl [llouad 1 '" 11) 750<:c SOPERSPORT: 1.
