Loder stole the holeshot and zoomed
away from the competition. Jesse Attaway, on a borrowed Z-50, shot off the
gate with his legs up 'in the air. It was
all fun and laughs, as some of the bigger racers had a hard time getting up
the Go Huge tabletop and out of the
Gravity Cavity, due to their long legs
and bocly weight. AMA Pro rider Erik
Anderson quickly found out that he
shouldn't have tried to jump the double in the back section, for the landing
was so hard and wobbly that he
almost got bucked off the bike.
.
Also in the pack of racers battling
hard in the two-lap race were Mike
Beaver, Jacob Becchina, Don Zipf,
Brian Hudson and Nathan Hollander.
Loder checked out from the pack and

whipped it over the tabletops. With
some of the full-grown riders falling
behind, Attaway decided to take
some short cuts to catch up and get
back into the mix. Hollander brought

Niels Klenshoj controlled the first
turn for the holeshot in moto one,
over Bowman, Rocky Robling, Daniel
Barker, Jim Hineman and the rest of
the pack. Bowman quickly relegated
Klenshoj to second place in the next
corner and took off with the lead.
Barker worked on Klenshoj down the
long back stretch and took second
heading into the Pit Jump section,
dragging Hineman along with him.
Robling fell before the halfway point
of the first lap, moving back to ninth
before restarting. At the end of the
action-packed first lap, it was Bowman, Barker, Hineman, Klenshoj, and
a hard-charging Ken Preston, who
had worked his way back into contention after a terrible midpack start.
On lap two, Bowman moved out to
a small two-bike-Iength lead, with
Barker, Hineman and Klenshoj in a
very tight group. Preston managed to
catch Klenshoj and made his pass
into fourth before the end of the second lap. Preston used the third lap to
move past Hineman and start to pressure Barker. Preston tried to pass
repeatedly, and he was successful on

away on his newly acquired Z-50.
At the end of the race, all of
Loder's practice on his track at home
(and perhaps his lighter weight) paid
the fourth lap, moving by Barker and
into second. Preston rode hard and
closed some of the gap between himself and Bowman - just not enough.
Bowman met the checkered flag to
end moto one, with Preston a close
second, Barker third, Hineman fourth
and Klenshoj fifth.
Bowman nailed the holeshot in
moto two, picking up right where he
left off in the first moto - out front
with clear sailing. Hineman led the
chase, with Ranel Cox, Robling and
Barker right on his rear fender. The
racing was very close up front until
Hineman fell on the second lap. Bikes
were going everywhere as riders tried
to avoid Hineman; Robling came out
of the mess in second place, ahead of
Cox and Barker. Cox moved by Robling on the third lap, but a mistake by
Cox put Robling back into second
place during lap four. The seesaw
battle between Robling and Cox
didn't stop there; Cox moved around
Robling again on the white-flag lap,
and Robling fell back to fifth. Bowman brought out the checkered flag
with a comfortable lead, Cox came
across second, Barker was third,
Klenshoj was a solid fourth and Robling finished fifth.

and racing through every straight-
off, as he took first place, to the
cheers of the crowd. Erik Anderson,
on his XR50, placed second (and first
place among those riders with a driver's license), and Z-50 pilot Mike
Beaver took third. Rumors in the pits
ran rampant, such as: "Loder's running a stroker motor; did you see that
holeshot?!"
"No, the bike is stock," said
Loder's dad, Dave. "He's just lighter
and the XR works better with lighter
guys racing it. Where can you get a
stroker?"
Anderson was asked about the
double jump he made.
"I knew I had the speed to make
the jump, but I didn't think about the
suspension," Erik said. "I thought I
was toast. I just got lucky and saved
it. Hope the crowd liked it."
