Chevy Trucks Kawasaki's Stephane Roncada suffered a nasty get-off during the first lap of
the 250cc main. Roncada came up short over a long triple jump, bailed hard and was unable to
continue. "I didn't have the speed to clear it: Roncada said. "1 caught a rock or something and
got kicked sideways. I was sideways in the air. and I decided to get off the bike. I think that was
the best choice for me. I landed on my heels on the face of the third jump. Nothing·s broken, but
they're bruised pretty bad." Roncada had both ankles and heels wrapped and could barely walk
afterward. The Frenchman says he'll sit out next week·s round in Minneapolis but will probably be
ready to ride the following week.
Ricky Carmichael's sixth win in a row put him in elite company. Only three other riders have won six Supercross races
in a row: Bob Hannah. in 1978, Rick Johnson. in 1988. and
Jeremy McGrath. in 1996. Carmichael's Daytona win was
also the ei9hth of his career.
KTM Red Bull"s Grant Langston (right) competed in the
250cc class at Daytona. Lan9ston normally competes in the
125cc Western Regional Supercross Series. but wanted to
stay sharp while the series takes a break. Langston bailed
hard in his heat race but came back to finish behind Damon
Huffman in the first semi. Langston again crashed out of the
main event while running ninth.
