Honda West Pons' Aiel( Barros came away from a two-day 500cc Grand Prix test in Barcelona. Spain. with the quickest time. a 1:45.8. on March 4 - just a tad over the lap record set in 1998 by Alex Criville. Barros' best was better than Red Bull Yamaha's Noriyuki Haga. with the Japanese ace lapping at 1:46.1 - a time that was matched by d'Antin Yamaha's Norick Abe. Road racer Mike Ciccotto was recently honored at the annual Wisconsin Motorsports Charities Recognition Dinner for his performance the past two seasons in the Buell Lightning Series. He joined auto racers Dick Trickle. Derek Daly and Lyn St. James in receiving the recognition. The dinner benefited Ranch Community Services. which is a rehabilitation center for developmentally disabled adults who suffer the debilitating effects of mental retardation. cerebral palsy. epilepsy. emotional or behavioral problems. autism and brain damage. Ciccotto won back-to-back Buell Lightning Series National Championships in 1999 and 2000. aboard a Buell Lightning Xl race bike. The STAR Motorcycle School. which was recently named "The Best Way To Go Fast" by Motorcyclist magazine in their Best of Motorcycling Awards. is introducing the STAR Pro School for 2001. The new one-day school is limited to just 25 students and features increased track time and more one-en-one instruction. In addition to limited classroom lecture sessions. the STAR Pro School will include more advanced on-track exercises and increased personal instruction. The two STAR Pro Schools scheduled for 2001 are March 26 in Pahrump. Nevada. and October 24 at Thunder Hill Motorsports Park. with both dates following current airs on Saturday momings at 7 (Pacific) and 8 (Eastem). STAR two-day schools. The AMA/NATC Youth National Trial Championships will be held June 30-July 2 at the Trials Training Center in Sequatchie, Tennessee. The three-day competition will crown national champions in each age group from 6 to 14. In an agreement reached with the sanctioning body, TIC will be the permanent host site for this event. SFX Motor Sports has announced the Cycle News Holeshot Bonus. a racer incentive extended at all Formula USA National Road Race Series events including round one of the series that was held at Daytona International Speedway on March 4. The holeshot winner of the second leg of the Lockhart Phillips Unlimited Superbike main event will receive a $250 bonus from Cycle News. The Cycle News Holeshot Bonus will be given to the rider who gets to the designated holeshot line first. The AMA Rapid Response Center currently offers riders the chance to file their objections to proposed federal rules that would have the effect of legalizing health-insurance discrimination against motorcyclists. It also includes a response to an unbalanced story in the USA Today newspaper regarding the closure of a motorized-recreation area in Southem Califomia. Supercross legend .Jeremy McGrath will appear in an episode of the 3D CGI animated show Max Steel. on the WB network on March 10. McGrath (the 3D CGI animated version) will meet up with the show's hero. Max Steel. when Max and friends take part in an off-road race. DUring the race. the team meets up with McGrath. who is "being targeted by a vengeful and jealous driver. Serge.
