DNo Grand Canyon, no painted desert, no Sedona and worst of all no national-level dirt trackl" Spreading The Word Scott Rousseau's "Are You Missing Out?" was great (Issue #4, January 31). Every year we go to the Atlanta Supercross and get to the stadium early just to watch the pre-qualifiers. These are the fast guys at our local' tracks representing racers everywhere. Like Rousseau said, these are some of the best races of the night. And when these guys make it to the night's program, they are cheered on along with the big names. This only adds to the great time that Supercross already offers. Thanks for spreading the word to those who have not experienced it. SCott Cruce Y1a the InlfNnet help. If not, read it again and don't think so much. I'm looking forward to more of the Undisco Kidd. He is out there somewhere - way out there. Bob Becker MankatD,MN Razing Arizona No Grand Canyon, no painted desert, no Sedona and worst of all no national-level dirt track! I know the alternate fuels scandal, Sheriff Joe and the Phoenix Cardinals are a major turn off from our wonderful desert oasis, ~ut why the tantalizing tease? Last year we had two major dirt track series visit our state and this year we've been left, shall we dare say, out in the cold. Tanner, Eklund, Pearson, Graham or Roberts ring a bell? Well, if they do not, then it makes sense that we have such a limited, or in the AMA's case, non-existent schedule of national events in the West. But if they do there are several venues here in Arizona and I am certain in California also that could fill your TBA race dates. Please come back. We miss you. EkyanSuIrH 6lendale, AI Okay, One More I can't agree more with the editor let's "86" this number-13 issue. BIll Keys Haywatrl,. CA Did I mention that the calendars were FREE? I'm trying to remember the last time I complained to somebody after they gave me something for FREE... Editor PA Woes Well, they finally did it. After attending five Supercrosses in Anaheim, I shall never return. After years of promising to improve the PA system, they decide that the best fix is to charge the spectators $10 bucks to listen on a portable radio - on top of the admission! Along with the inaudible PA, the scoreboard was useless most of the time. And to top it off, the $5 program was not very logical in listing rider's numbers without doing some research. With three races this year alone, one would think that they would have figured out how to run a show by now. Next year, my money will be spent in San Diego. Howard Halterman VIa the Internet Adelanto Grand Prix Desert Vipers pulled off another topnotch, fun, professional, and safe motorcycle race without the help of District 37 of the AMA. They were not missed whatsoever. Why couldn't they realize that they were going to lose thousands of dollars of income from fees usually collected at this event? I hope they resolve their issues for future events. We need to all work together because it will affect our future in the sport we all love. QHrThomas VIa the Internet Liked Jimarlllo If you read Cycle News cover to cover, as most do, then you caught the Trans-Atlantic Antix of the JimariIIo column (Issue #3, January 24). If you enjoyed it as I did, great. If you understood it - seek professional Happy With SFX As a writer, photographer, announcer, pit steward and race dad who works 50-plus MX events a season in the Mid-South region, I don't have a lot of time to be a spectator. Actually, I've never really thought of motocross, Supercross, or Arenacross as spectator sports. My family and have always been participants, in one form or another. I would like to personally thank SFX for opening my eyes to the other side of the sport. On a frigid day in January, 2001, the wife, race junior, and I loaded up in the van and attended a Regional Arenacross in Nashville, Tennessee. We stood outside the locked arena doors with the other spectators waiting for them to open. We flowed with the crowd of 7000-plus fans through the arena checking out the scene, buying Tshirts, posters, sodas and pizza slices, and, humbly asked for guidance from the friendly ushers to help us locate our seats. During the event, I found myself standing, cheering, yelling and generally acting like a spectator as the spectacle of Arenacross unfolded below me. By the time the evening came to a close. it dawned on me that I hadn't even thought about the behind-thescenes action that took place to put on an event of this caliber. The crew of SFX had put together a tight, well-orchestrated. spectatorfriendly event that had taken this seasoned motocross worker and entertained him and his family. Thanks SFX. I deserved a break, and you gave me one. r I, along with over 5000 other standing-room-only fans, attended the Wrenchead.com National at Manzanita Speedway in October and it was a well-accepted and attended event. Why have you left us? Was Keith Hall that difficult to deal with or was it his mute public address system that repelled you from a return visit? Surely it wasn't the racing surface. And Mr. Romero, please come back. I know that Arizona does not really count as west coast but, hey, there are no rolling black outs in Phoenix, or Yuma for that matter, which is only a few short hours from Southern California. And what shall we say about the AMA Grand National's absence from our state for nearly two decades? Not only have they left out Arizona, but the great state of California as well. If I recall, there were some pretty big names in dirt track racing history that came out of the western states . have you watched "On Any Sunday" lately? Do the names Carr, Jorgensen, Filice, Lawson, Rainey, Calendar Complaints II Here is another letter to complain about the Cycle News Calendar of Champions. Where is the missing picture of our American Speedway Champion? I was sure that I would see a Speedway picture. I was really disappointed when I didn't find a Speedway picture. I had to count the months to make sure you hadn't forgotten one. It's been said that Speedway is the best-kept secret in America. Cycle News could sure help to change that. You should have had Scott Rousseau proofread the calendar. Where is Scott Rousseau when we need him? Come on, Cycle News, let's get on with the program. Speedway is the best spectator motorsport there is. Richard MIgnano ColtDnwooct CA Apparently, there aren't enough months in the year to keep all of you who received FREE calendars happy. cue' • DavId Screws Springville, TN n e _ s • FEBRUARY 14, 2001 5
