AMA National Hare & Hound Series Round 1 : Winter Classic Pro Circuit/Dunlop/O'Neal 10<500. Early leader Ty Davis ended up third. The race began under clear skies that remained on the cool side throughout both 40-mile loops, with the bomb run heading directly east from the start off Bessemer Mine Road and just north of Soggy Dry Lake, which was more soggy than dry. Davis, who chose the extreme north end of the start line, quickly went to the front on his Montclair Yamaha/Big Gun/Moose YZ426F. "Ronnie [Shuler] and I were going at it loff the start]. then I passed him and looked out off to my right, the Kawie guys had probably a hundred yards on me," Davis said. "I was kind of bummed. But I stuck to my trail and kept it pinned and passed them back. "Brian [Brown] and I, we just pinned it the whole time," Davis said. "It was as fast as you could go. It's scary because you're going so fast, and there's those ditches and stuff that you don't see. It wore me out the first loop wore me out." By Destry Abbott - - . the Desert Moe.'. So did Abbott. Descending a rocky downhill, Davis made a mistake, and Brown attacked on his IMS/FMF/Moose KX500. "I got right up on him, and that's pretty much how it stayed for probably half the lap," Brown said. "I just followed Ty through the tight stuff, hoping that he'd pull us out further from Destry, [but] he didn't. Destry got closer to us. By the time I had a spot to pass Ty, he was right with us. So I passed Ty, and Destry followed us. I led through the snow section. I waited too long to pass Ty, then it was too late at the finish." Abbott said, "Off the start, I was about third. Ty and Brian had a good pace, and they started pulling away. I got arm pump really bad so I just kept stretching out. Once I started feeling better towards the end of the first loop, I think I started reeling them in a little bit. "Going out on the second loop, I felt really good. The bike was working great. I started slowly picking them up and reeling them in. Right when I caught Brian,
