Margin of Victory: 3.70 secs,
Bryen McGavran (131) started the
125cc main in first but ended It In Iaat,
after dropping out on the third lap.
Langston from the start and pulled
away, but Langston held on for a
strong second. Smith rode in third for
the entire race, while Fast by Ferracci
Husqvarna's Travis Preston and Planet Honda's Tyler Evans battled
throughout the race.
Alba Yamaha's Anthony Amaradio
would finish sixth with FMF-backed
Frenchman Stephan Demartis following for seventh. Pingree regrouped to
finish eighth, with Colorado Powersports' Andy Harrington taking the
final transfer position.
Heat two saw another first-turn
crash, but Thain avoided the carnage
and grabbed the start. Husqvarna's
Bryan McGavran got by quickly,
though, and was the early leader with
Fonseca and Thain on his tail.
Fonseca motored by McGavran at
the beginning of lap two and took off.
Thain also got by McGavran a lap
later and would hold on to second to
the finish. Ivan Tedesco moved into
third in the final laps, while McGavran
would hold on for one of his better
rides, finishing fourth.
Motoworld's Keith Johnson
crossed for fifth, with Kawasaki of
Mexico's Erick Vallejo finishing sixth.
Plano Honda's Gio Tedesco (Ivan's
younger brother) qualified in seventh,
with Schnell and Suzuki-supported
Akira Narita on his tail for the final
direct transfers. In the end, Fonseca's
heat was six-seconds faster than
Buckelew's.
MSR's Robbie Skaggs took the win
in the LCQ, with Pro Circuit/Kawasaki/SplitFire's
Andrew
Short,
Motoworld YZ250F -supp'ort rider
Kevin Johnson and Mach One's
Daniel Blair taking the final qualifying
positions.
in the next few laps as Fonseca slowly closed in on Smith.
Several laps later, Fonseca was on
Smith's rear fender, and the crowd
was sensing a good battle. Fonseca
pulled up alongside Smith and the
two flew side by side over the triple.
Fonseca used his extra power to get
himself into the next corner first, and
the lead was all his.
Fonseca slowly pulled away from
Smith throughout the next few laps
and set sail for yet another Anaheim
win. Smith's teammate Thain was in
third for the majority of the race, but
Schnell was creeping back up on him
in the last few laps.
Series front-runners Buckelew and
Langston had their work cut out for
them, and they were both making
progress through the pack, but they
were nowhere they wanted to be.
Schnell made a last-lap pass on
Thain for his first podium of the year,
following Fonseca and Smith across
the line. Thain, Pingree and Ivan
Tedesco were next. Buckelew and
Langston crossed a distant and disappointing seventh and eighth.
"I actually almost crashed out
there," Fonseca admitted. "I hit the
rev-limiter 8 couple of times, too.
Anaheim is good, though. I wish we
could race the whole series here." CN

McGavran grabbed the holeshot in
the main, and the $500 SFX Holeshot
Award. Smith, Fonseca and Evans
were all right behind him. Smith soon
got by McGavran and took over the

second. Buckelew was way back in
the pack, and Langston was picking
himself off the ground after a first-lap
crash.
Smith put some major ground on
the pack, as he had a four-second
lead on Fonseca on the second lap.
Schnell dropped back a few positions
