Wint1:Jr Racing Series Round 2: Four States MX Park By KAT SPANN AND THE BECKSTER PHOTOS BY KAT SPANN HOOKS, TX, JAN. 21 .J. Pecsok topped all three of his entered classes during round two of the Honda of Houston/FMF Texas Winter Racing Series at Four States MX Park near the Texas/Arkansas border. Pecsok won all six motos in the 125cc Intermediate, 125cc Open and 250cc Intermediate events. A severe ice storm two weeks prior made the huge pine and hardwood trees look like they had been topped by Paul Bunyan's weed-whacker. Broken limbs and treetops were scattered everywhere, so promoter Ronnie Jones and his staff worked around the clock to clean it all up. On top of that, freezing temperatures froze the saturated ground on race morning, so Jones and his crew jumped on the heavy machinery and got the track ready to greet the 339 entered riders who braved the weather. J.J. Pecsok put his Honda of Houston/Pro Action/FMF mount at the front of the pack in the first 125cc Intermediate moto. Bradley Mikolas got the holeshot but went too wide in the first-turn bowl sweeper, allowing Pecsok to take the lead. Mikolas locked the door in second, followed by Brian Starnes, Brandon Fulton and Adam Turner. Both Fulton and Turner got by Starnes on lap two. Mikolas reeled in Pecsok and took the lead on lap four, but Pecsok got it back and took the win, with Mikolas the runnerup. Fulton finished third, followed by Turner, Starnes and Nathaniel Benoit. Pecsok led moto two, with Fulton in second. David Tarnow gated fourth, followed by Mikolas and Cody Drewek. Mikolas charged on Tarnow on lap three to take over third, with all four so close you could throw a blanket over them. A heated battle for second between Fulton and Tarnow on the final lap lasted all the way to the finish line, with Fulton barely holding on to second in front of Tarnow. Fulton took second overall with a 3-2 finish to Mikolas' 2-4 for third. Tarnow's 8-3 earned fourth. Drewek (7-5) rounded out the top five. Jeffrey Fisher of Lubbock, Texas, raced at the front of the 60cc Open class for the first lap, with Nicholas Fisher of West Monroe, Louisiana, in J second and Zeb Smith in third. Smith took over second on lap two when a miscue set Nicholas back to fifth. Blake Wharton moved into third and challenged Smith for second, making his move on the final lap when Smith holeshot. Hollister followed Baker through the first lap before moving to the front. Bryan Zachary gated third and also got by Baker on lap two. Painter, in fourth, held off Monteleone the entire moto. Hollister's 1-1 tally zipped up first overall. Baker used his 3-3 performance for second. Painter (2-4) was third. Zachary (7-2) was fourth, while Monteleone's consistent 5-5 finishes garnered the same position overall. eN (Above) At the second round of the Winter Racing Serles, J.J. North followed in fourth, with Nicholas Fisher fifth. Wharton absconded with the second-moto holeshot, with Jeffrey Fisher second. Fisher never completed a lap, though; he blew a chain on the far section of the course. Wharton held the lead with Smith at his back door. Hunter Hewitt was third, but he got around Smith for second and set his sights on Wharton. When Wharton went down on lap three, Hewitt took over the lead, with Smith in second again. The positions remained the same to the checkers, with North third, Dillon Solly fourth and Tyler Cummings fifth. Smith's 3-2 finish was good enough for first. North (43) claimed second. Hewitt (8-1) took third overall. Wharton (2-7) salvaged fourth overall. Jeffrey Fisher returned to lead the first 80cc (7-11) moto start to finish. Wharton gated second and held his position for the first two laps before Logan Melton got around him on lap three. Wharton finished third, followed by his brother Tyler Wharton and Hunter Hewitt. Fisher snared the second-moto holeshot but slid out a few turns later. Melton and Tyler Wharton got by him. Fisher regained a position on lap two when he passed Tyler and then used the third lap to take back the lead by passing Melton through the whoops. Fisher took the win and the overall, with Melton second. Tyler Wharton (4-3) was third overall. Hewitt (5-4) was fourth and Blake Wharton (3-6) was fifth. Fo... StIItes II)( Put! Some 27 riders lined the gate for the 80cc Open event. Chris Rensink took the holeshot but shut down too soon in the first turn, allowing John Baker a clear shot out of the bowl sweeper for the lead. Lance Hollister chased Baker, followed by Taylor Painter, Taylor Smith, Jansin McCoy and Vince Monteleone. Hollister got the goods on Baker on the second lap. Painter and Smith also passed Baker when he found some unforeseen mud. Baker caught Smith on the next lap for third but was unable to catch Painter.
