fourth. Trussardi had a strong start on his TM 125, rounding the first loop in fifth. However, shortly into his second lap, a bobble and a resulting crash caused him to lose a few spots; spots that would take Trussardi to the end of the event to recover. The second lap saw Lafferty and Abbott having a tussle over east-versus-west supremacy, with Lafferty getting the upper hand and then setting out to reel in Pearson. The middle laps of the event settled down with all the top riders consoUdating their positions, with one exception Lafferty had caught up to Pearson, and the two were on each other like coyotes on their next meal. On the fourth lap, Pearson pitted while Lafferty only grabbed some water from his mechanic Allan Randt in Tour de France fashion, and he passed the Yamaha rider while he took on fuel. Lafferty's lead, however, was short-lived, as exiting the pit section he overshot a turn and leaped up onto a boulder, while Pearson dived undemeath to secure second place behind his Montclair Yamaha teammate Davis, with an hour still left on the clock. As the race wound down, it became clear who the riders were who spent the winter training. Davis finished the event looking like he rode only one hour instead of three, while his Yamaha teammate looked relatively fresh, as did Lafferty in third place. Abbott was happy with his conditioning in fourth, as was Team Green's Brian Brown in fifth. With his third Tecate win, Ty Davis breaks free of the gaggle of two-time Tecate winners (Ron Bishop, Kevin Hines, Bob Popiel) in his quest to meet - then beat - Larry Roeseler's record five Tecate event victories. eN Americans for Responsible Recreational Access (ARRA), a coalition of recreational interests, is working to promote and protect access to public lands for responsible recreational purposes. It was formed in response to recent federal government initiatives that restrict Americans' access to their public lands and to counteract well-organized, well-funded activities of the extremist environmental community targeting off-highway vehicles for extinction on public lands. ARRA's efforts to maintain access to public lands for recreational activities integrate Congressional advocacy, grassroots mobilization and public relations strategies utilizing positive media images of off-highway vehicle (OHV) use. These activities support the campaign messages of promoting environmentally responsible use of public lands by OHV and other groups, and the need for the public's input to be considered in decisions affecting the use of its public lands. Founding members of ARRA are the Motorcycle Industry Council (MlC) and the Specialty Vehicle Institute of America (SVIA) along with the American Council of Snowmobile Associations, the American Horse Council, the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA), the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA), and the Personal Watercraft Industry Association (PWIA). The grassroots portion of this program is critical. Your voice is crucial in determining the future of responsible OHV recreation on public lands. Tecate Hare Scrambles Tecata, B.C.
