AMA Texas/Oklahoma Pro Circuit Series Final Round: Village Creek MX Park (Left) Jonathan Kerr couldn't be beat in either the 85cc 114-15) or 85cc Open classes throughout the AMA Texas/Oklahoma Pro Circuit Series. IBelow) At the final round at Village Creek MX Park in Fort Worth, Texas, there was tight racing right off the start of the 125cc Schoolboy contest. Ernie Phillips 16&) and Brandon Fulton 138) vie for the holeshot while Nathaniel Benoit 19) charges up the middle. Bv cruised behind White for the first three laps before he was able to pass him on top of the hill. In the second moto, Canard was out front at the end of the first lap, leading Bryant, Cunningham, Fisher and Tyler Wharton. On lap two, everyone appeared to change positions through the switchbacks; Bryant surfaced with the lead, followed by Cunningham, Fisher, Canard and White. By the end of the next lap, Cunningham was out front, with Bryant second and Fisher third. Fisher turned up the wick and used the final lap to get around Bryant and finish second, behind Cunningham. On December 2, 125cc Schoolboy rider James Marshall was the only racer other than Kerr to end the series with a perfect score of 135 five points separating Vince Monteleone and Taylor Painter going into the final round. Monteleone got the first-moto holeshot and led Dustin Shows and Painter, while Jake Miller did all he could to fend off Ryan Voit. On lap two, Voit passed Miller and held the position to the finish, followed by Miller and Michael Kasberg. Kerr took the win, with Shows the runner-up. Shows grabbed the holeshot in moto two, with Painter and Monteleone in his wake. Monteleone moved up a notch on lap two when he passed Painter, but he couldn't catch Shows before moto's end. Shows took the overall win with his 21 performance and played points spoiler to Monteleone's 1-2 tally for second. Painter took the series win with 97 points to Monteleone's 96 for second. The 65cc Open contest had a 15rider gate. Richard White grabbed the first-moto holeshot. Kyle Cunningham got around White on the first lap and settled into the lead. Both Jeffrey Fisher and Chad Bryant got around White. Fisher finished a firm second and Bryant was third. Trey Canard points. Although Brandon Fulton took the first-moto holeshot, Marshall led the first lap in. Marshall remained at the controls to the checkers, with Fulton in tow. Nathaniel Benoit gated third, but when his bike seized on the third_lap, he had to bow out. Ernie Phillips stepped up to fill Benoit's vacated spot, followed by Rusty Huddle and Ben Schrik. Andrew Cannon netted the holeshot in moto two, but Marshall overpowered the leader and took control of the race early. Fulton moved into second, displacing Cannon back a notch before the beginning of lap two. Huddle hunted down Cannon on the second lap for third, and, as if that wasn't bad enough, Phillips got into the game and took fourth away from Cannon on the final lap. In the 125cc Pro class, Chris Torrance was out front off the start. Torrance just recently returned from Europe after doing a five-month stint with the Six Flags Over Europe organization, performing stunts on a dirt bike for two adventure shows. Blake Keeton stayed close to Torrance for the first two laps before Torrance KAT SPANN AND THE BECKSTER PHOTOS BV KAT SPANN AND CONNIE JOHNSON FORT WORTH, TX, NOV. Kerr took home the gold in the in the 85cc (1415) and 85-112cc Open classes as riders converged on Village Creek MX Park for the final round, which ended up being split between two separate weekends. Due to the growth of the series, it has become necessary to split the events between two days. The minibikes, 125/250cc Beginner and Ladies classes are run on Saturday and the remaining classes on Sunday. This year, the Saturday classes were completed before the bottom fell out of the sky. Many loyal participants stayed over, hoping the races would continue in the morning, but another storm came through, turning the track into a quagmire. The Sunday portion was rescheduled for December 2, and on that day it went off without a hitch, despite nearfreezing temperatures. On November 11, James Pino snared the first 85cc (14-15) moto holeshot, but Kerr took the lead early and immediately began to outdistance the pack. Greg Chapman zeroed in on Pino, making his move the final time on top of the hill to take over second. Kerr took the holeshot in moto two, with Chapman in his wake. Pino gated third, followed by Ryan King, and they remained in those positions to the finish. One of the closest points finishes came in the 85cc (12-13) class, with M 22 ..JANUARY 31, 2001 • cue I • n e _ s could shake him loose, finishing a handful of seconds in front of Keeton. Keeton got the second-moto holeshot, but Torrance passed him out of the first turn. Keeton got Torrance back on top of the hill, but Torrance continued to show Keeton a tire as they headed into lap two. Torrance finally made his move on Keeton to take the lead, and he held it to the finish for the win and overall. eN Village Creek MX Park fori Warth, Texas Resulls: Navember II/December Z, ZDDD IFinal Roundl Sl (4-6) STK: 1.
