DEC. 2 At the seventh round of the eight-round MotoPro of Oceanside-sponsored CMXR Autumn due to a suspension-rebound prob- Series, Scott Sease was the victor in the Open ProfAm division. When the gate dropped for the first combined Open ProfAm and Vet Over 40 Masters moto, Craig Infield grabbed the holes hot, ahead of Rob Wilshire, Kirk Chandler, D.R. Clement and Sease. As the pack navigated the Carlsbad infield, Sease was able to get around Clement and lock in on Chandler. As Chandler and Sease dropped off the ledge and into Rattlesnake Gulch, Sease pulled the trigger and squared Chandler off. Sease was on a rampage on the first lap, and he and Chandler outpulled Wilshire up the Carlsbad Freeway. When the first lap concluded, Infield was hold· ing his own up front, though Sease was putting a ton of pressure on the leader. Right behind Sease was Chandler, and a couple of seconds back was Rich Boiteau, who also had an amazing first lap, passing numerous riders to move into fourth on the track. ahead of Wilshire and poor-starting Lee Bacon. lem, but he pulled things together and began putting the pressure on, and eventually Mcinnis stalled his engine and let Arnold by to take over second, and the finishing order of the top three was set. The second moto was somewhat anticlimactic. Q'Daniel absconded with the holeshot and immediately pulled out a fairly large lead. Consequently, he found it necessary to do some showing off, and he put on an aerial show of every leg trick in the book while still increasing his lead. The tricks were fun to watch, but the Sease was not satisfied with following Infield aTound and put a quick pass on Infield and started to pull a gap on the pack. Infield was still running second, and Chandler was all over his rear fender as he watched Sease pull away. Chandler made the pass on Infield on the third lap and set his sights on the distant Sease. The battle was still raging for third. Bacon moved into third and Infield was relegated back to fourth. Sease received the white flag, real fender-bending race action was all behind him. Carlsbad Raceway Fudge Tastes Sweet Victory at CMXR Bv KIRK CHANDLER CARLSBAD, CA, DEC. 16 At the fmal round of the eight-race, MotoProsponsored CMXR Autumn Series, Robert Fudge and Michael McGowen swapped positions and mota wins, with Fudge taking the overall in the Vet Over 40 Novice class. When the gate dropped, the booming fourstroke of Allen McKay had the distinct advantage in the first turn. He was followed by McGowen, Andre Stowe, Fudge and Jim Myerson. As the pack concluded the first lap, McKay was holding on to the lead by the slimmest of margins. McGowen forced his way into the lead on lap two. Fudge was also on the move; he passed Stowe and was right on McKay's rear fender. McGowen made a fast break from the rest of the field, and Fudge was stuck behind McKay for more than a lap and a half. As the race progressed. Fudge made a late-moto push that saw him close the gap on McGowen and take the lead on the fifth lap of the seven-lap race. McGowen then reapplied the pressure on Fudge and was waiting for a mistake. When the white flag was given to the leaders, McGowen had a little more than two minutes to make his pass and take the mote win. When the two leaders disappeared into the back section, the crowd's anticipaHon grew until McGowen took the leap off Devil's Drop to take the checkers ahead of Fudge and a distant McKay. The stage was set for another good moto when McKay once again pulled the hoieshot. right ahead of McGowen. Stowe, Fudge and David Abelsen. McKay was relieved of the lead within the first lap and McGowen went off by himself in the lead. The battle for third was between Fudge and Stowe. Fudge made the pass and quickly got around McKay and was chasing after McGowen for the second time that day. When Fudge finally caught McGowen, half the race was over; he made a quick pass to put himself into the lead on the fifth lap once again. This time Fudge was able to gap McGowen so much that his last lap would be a whole lot easier. When the checkered flag waved, Fudge had the moto win and the overall. McGowen was able to take second, ahead of Abelsen. Results Carlsbad Raceway: Ryan Hughes (48) pulled both holeshots in the 125cc Novice class on his way to second overall In Carlsbad.
