The Last Dash
By ROD GIRARD
Greenville AG Center: Lady Luck did not smile on Tommy Hayden at Santa's Indoor MX in
Greenville, Kentucky; mechanical gremlins and a tangle made him play catch-up to Jordan
Moneymaker, who won both Pro classes.
rounding the first tum with the lead. Intennediates Damon Wasden and Brown were on his
rear knobbies. Jimmy Chamberlin blasted into
second and then qUickly passed for the lead.
Brown pressured Byrd until he, too, got by.
Chamberlin was airing it Qut, with Brown giving chase, while Byrd was now fending off
Intermediates Jordan Dula, Wasden and
Travis Bryant. Brown was creeping ever closer
to Chamberlin, finally zapping him on the
next-te-Iast lap to win race one. Chamberlin
hung tough in second, with Dula flashing
across to take third.
Brown ripped the holes hot, ahead of
Chamberlin and Dula, to start race two. The
top three opened up a lead on the rest of the
field as they dueled for first. Brown and Chamberlin gradually put a little ground on Dula as
the race progressed. Brown held off Chamberlin all the way to the checkers, thus earning
the overall 250cc Intermediate trophy. Chamberlin ended up second overall, ahead of Dula
and Bryant.

Does Just That
By DAVID AND JESSICA SCREWS
GREENVILLE, KY. DEC. 2
He races blue bikes with the big boys. In
2000. consistent competitiveness helped him
chalk up a sixth-place finish in the
AJIlA/Chevy Trucks Superbike Championship
Series and a fourth-place finish in the Pro
Honda Oils 600cc Supersport Series. He's fast
- real fast. He's good - world-class good. So
what's he doing at an Ezell Sports Promotions
indoor motocross event at a small arena just
outside Greenville, Kentucky? Simple; He
loves to race ~ anything with two wheels, on
any surface, any time, any place, anywhere.
Who is he?
He's the eldest son of a well~known racing
family that hails from Owensboro, Kentucky.
Their name's Hayden. His is Tommy.
Contesting the 250cc A ciass at Santa's
Indoor MX, Tommy Hayden couldn't seem to
beg, borrow or steal a smidgen of good fortune from Lady Luck. In the heat race, he was
tight on fellow Kentuckian Jordan Moneymaker's rear fender until the last couple of laps,
when his Yamaha developed problems and he
had to drop out of the race. In the main event,
he got jammed up on the inside of the
holeshot with Suzuki pilot B.J. Hall and
Honda~mounted Geoff Travis. Running third,
he was putting a severe amount of pressure
on the second-spot man, Hall, when he stalled
out in a hairpin corner and dropped back to
last place. When the checkers fell, Hayden finished fourth, behind Moneymaker, Hall and
Travis. As for Kawasaki kamikaze pilot Moneym~ker, he not only took the 250cc A purse,
but repeated the process in the 125cc A contest for a sweep of the Pro classes and a
healthy wad to stuff in his stocking on Christmas Eve.
