COLUMBUS, OH, DEC. 2
Odenton, Maryland's Aaron Day had a very
pleasant racing experience at round five of
the Ohio Arenacross Series in Columbus.
The Kawasaki jockey took his invasion of
Ohio and District 11 very seriously; he
almost won everything during Saturday's
grand event. Pickerington's Mark Burkhart
also ran well. as the recently returned-ta-racing rider capped the evening off with the
250cc A main-event win and the lucrative
Dash For Cash victory. Day was more consistent, however; his win in the 125cc A class
and his second-place finish behind Burkhart
in the 250cc A contest placed him solidiy on
the podium twice. The only other rider to do
this was MPS Racing's Steve "The Animal"
Andrich, who went 3-3 in the 125cc and
250cc Pro mains for a steady and profitable
night. Andrich also won the Dash For Cash
on the previous night.
Saturday night's racing was witnessed by a
terrific crowd, with a couple of thousand spectators and more than 500 riders on hand.
American Moto-Sports founder Tab Thompson seemed pleased with the tumout.
"I'm tickled to death," Thompson ~t!outed
over the noise. "especially with the nasty
weather we've been having. This is great!"
Though the temperatures outside were well
below freezing, the action indoors was hot.
fast and furious. Bucyrus' Ryan Lutz, on his
Husqvarna, provided thrills with his high-flying, underwear-only aerial antics during the
jump-off competition.
In Amateur racing action, Utica, Ohio's
Cale Coe was sensational, flying his Ohiomade Cobra CM50 home first in the talented
50cc (4-6) field. Logan's Levi Kilbarger aced
a couple of classes, handily whipping the
65cc (10- 11) and Mini Junior (7 - 11) classes.
Circleville's Pat Massie looked very impressive after making a move onto a different
machjne; the longtime Honda rider traded in
his mount for a new Kawasaki KX85 and
ruled the world, snatching the top podium
spot in the 85cc Extra class and the Mini
Senior (12-15) division.
Corey Smith and Willy Browning went to
war in two classes. Smith bested Browning for
the 125cc B-c1ass win, while Browning thrust
his F&S Suzuki home first in the Schoolboy
division.
Chad "Ice" Walker stomped home as the
victor in two classes. His thumping KTM 520
SX pulled him into the winner's circle in the
Open and Over 25 B classes. Saint Paris,
Ohio's Mark Roop was unstoppable on his
YZ426F, romping off with the Over 25 and
Over 30 A-class wins.
Luke Lyons stole the show in the 250cc C
class again, while KTM 250 SX rider Andy
Willard rode off with the 250cc B-class victory.
") love this new bike!" screamed Willard as
he rode off the track in victory.
West Virginia's Austin Coon has been a
dominant force in the 50cc class throughout
this series, and this night was no different; he
rode fast and smart for the win yet again. In
the older 50cc (7-8) class, Lancaster's Kyle
COllrill was brilliant, slashing his King Cobra
50 to the front to win that division.
