CMC Northwest Winter Arenacross Series Round 4: Exposition Arena STORV AND PHOTOS Bv Graves came back several motos later to also land the 250cc Pro overall win. Graves had Suzuki-mounted J.R Vielle to contend with, although Graves and his newly acquired Yamaha were too much for the rookie Pro, and Vielle was doomed to the number-two spot, ahead of the top placing Intermediate rider, Eric Rogers. In moto two, Rogers trailed the Pro duo to net the Intermediate overall win, ahead of fellow Yamaha rider Joe Brockway. Among Saturday night's top performers was Honda rider Joey Mancuso, who laid claim to wins in the 125cc and Before The Hill Intermedi- CLAV liGHT SAlEM, OR, DEC. 15-16 'l7he penultimate arenacross doubleUheader of the year was a continuation of the domination of the Before The Hill and 125cc Junior classes by Oregon's Ryan Huege. Huege won three of four classes he contested at round four of the CMC Northwest Winter Arenacross Series, held inside the Exposition Arena in Salem. Huege's reign of terror began on Friday night with his overall Before The Hill Junior win. The 14-year-old rider from Yamhill, Oregon, scored the overall with 2-1 performances. The lone Intermediate rider in the field, Justin Jensen, landed the holeshot laurels in the first moto and remained there to the finish to lead the top placing Junior rider, Ryan Brubeck, who led both racing Huege brothers, Ryan and Shawn, into the top three. Huege netted the lead in moto two and put considerable ground on the fjeld. Behind him, Jensen and Brubeck battled back and forth for the duration; the scuffle went in Brubeck's favor for second overall, ahead of Intermediate overall winner Jensen. KTM rider Pete Sannan scored third Junior in the moto, but it was Shawn Huege who grabbed third overall via 3-5 finishes. Yamaha YZ250F pilot Aaron Tunnell stopped Huege from garnering a Friday evening double overall win by sweeping both 125cc Junior motos. Huege trailed Tunnell in moto one to finish second, ahead of Brubeck, early leader Anthony Cerruti and Ryan Thompson, and was making a charge through traffic to close in on Tunnell, Adam Metzler and Jimi Blackwell until a crash halted h is progress. Tunnell (1-1), Brubeck (3-2), Blackwell (6-4), Thompson (5-5) and Cerruti (4-6) filled out the top five overall. Mike Storm and Tony Graves have waged war in each round of the series, and tonight was more of the same. Storm fended off all of Graves' challenges to win the first moto, but Graves reversed that scenario with a win in moto two, holding Storm at bay to net the moto and overall win. In the adjoined Intermediate class, Jensen picked up the overall win. 34 ..JANUARY 17. 2001 • cue mer National number holder. His finest performances came in the 125cc Intermediate class, in which he ran in close quarters with Pro riders Storm and Graves. Jason Parks (3-3) and Jensen (4-4). Jared Wood and Gared Steinke have controlled the 60cc class all year long, but on this night Kawasaki-mounted Danny Gubser enjoyed the spotlight with his win in the 60cc Open class. While the KTM-mounted Wood did win the first moto, Gubser held off Wood in moto two to garner the overall win - his first of the series - ahead of Wood (1-2) and Tyler McClinton (4-3). Gubser also picked •• n _ ..... s up a win in the 60cc (9-11) class, although luck was on his side in moto two when KTM riders Kyle Thompson and Wood encountered crash-related problems and couldn't reel in the impressive Gubser. Thompson finished fourth in moto two to notch second overall in the 60cc (9-11) class. Salem's David Paschke won the half-time Husqvarna 50cc Challenge race, which is sponsored by local Husqvarna dealer Bill's Motorcycles of Salem, to extend his streak to three wins of the four rounds thus far. The 8-year-old rider topped Justin Spink to earn a three-class win after also earlier winning the Pee Wee (78) and 50cc Open classes. Huege polished off his impressive weekend by winning the 125cc Junior and Before The Hill Junior classes on Saturday night. Huege's 125cc win came ahead of Blackwell, Metzler, Sannan and Cerruti, and he also led Thompson, Brubeck, Blackwell and Metzler into the top five in the Before The Hill Junior class. Graves, who had earlier lost to Storm in the 125cc Pro class, beat all comers in the combined 250cc Pro/Intermediate class.
