Meldrum both broke with wheels in the air, but Hancock was leading the way. Janniro dialed it up a notch and went to work on the inside, trying to get under Hancock, but it was to no avail. Schwartz used one lap to get by Meldrum and was running a solid third, looking for a chink in the armor of the front-running twosome. It didn't happen in the quick four-Iapper and he had to settle for the show money. In the Handicap main, Marvin Sonnier was all alone on the 10-yard line. Estes shared the 30 with no one, and Meldrum was alone on the 40. The 50 was very crowded with Castro, Hicks, Janniro, Hancock and Schwartz. Eight laps, eight riders. Janniro Uterally exploded off the line and ran down the field in one short lap to take the lead as they came around the first time, and from there on out it was survival mode for the young man, as .he knew Hancock was in the house and not too far behind. Hicks, on a borrowed bike, held on to second for three laps before Hancock got through to take dead aim on Janniro. Castro was on the move and hoping to win the Handicap main for a third week in a row; he was running third. No one was making any mistakes in the front-running three, and as the laps ran down it was the Janniro Show. Hancock settled for second, with Castro content with third. Hicks hung on for fourth. Meldrum, Schwartz, Estes and Sonnier rounded out the field. The Junior Speedway riders showed that there is a very promising future in the caliber of riders who will be moving up to the big bikes in the next few years. Justin Boyle led the way for 3 1/2 laps in the main, only to park it in four and end up high-siding. This opened the door for Tim Gomez to pick up all the marbles. Danny Easley was second. Boyle had to settle for third. Johnny Lupo played tag with Dave Delbridge for the first couple of laps in the Division II main, but in the end he was able to be out front when it counted - at the checkered flag. Sonnier was second, with John Skunkard third. The Division II B main was all Jeff Blaydes' from start to finish. Mike Boyle and Howard Larson followed him home. eN Coopertand Racewar- Jim Thomas (1) takes the lead off the Over 45 start at round five of the Oklahoma Winter series In Stillwater. Randy Brown (16) placed third, Mark Wright (96) placed fourth and Kawasaki jockey Clyde Shepherd placed fifth. Oklahoma Winter Series Round 5: Cooperland Raceway Long's Time Coming BY STILLWATER, OK, DEC. 3 ound five of the Oklahoma Winter Series saw more than 300 riders in attendance at Cooperland Raceway. Expert rider Glen Long rode his Reynard Modification Yamahas to four moto wins and took home two overall trophies in the 125cc and 250cc Expert classes. In the first 250cc Expert moto, Yamaha rider Dusty Emerson took the holeshot. Long went down in the second corner and the rest of the pack got by him before he could get back under way. Emerson managed to build quite a lead, followed by Honda-mounted Heath Unruh and Yamaha pilot Ricky Peterson. By lap three, Long had caught up with the back of the pack and was knocking on Unruh's door. Long passed Unruh, and they both made short work of Peterson. Emerson didn't make it easy for Long, but Long kept hammering away until he got around him on lap four. It was bar to bar for a while, ending with Long out in front, followed by Emerson, Unruh and Peterson. In 250cc Intermediate action, Wes Parr and Mark Rausch swapped paint on their Yamahas going into the first turn and down the straight. Parr went down in the second turn, but Rausch didn't get too far. By the end of lap one, KTM rider David Tarnow was out front, with Suzuki jockey Sheldon Herman and Yamaha-mounted Keith Cooper in tow; Parr and Rausch were lost back in the pack. On lap two, Rausch reappeared in fifth place, where he finished, but not before dicing it up with Kawasaki jockey Brandon Cheek, who was running fourth. Up front, Cooper was waging his own war with Tarnow and had the crowd on their feet and shouting for their chosen warrior. The battles continued to the checkers. Cooper passed Tarnow down in the creek section on the final lap, but Tarnow went wide on the off-camber turn before the finish line and flat-tracked his way back into the lead for the win. Cooper took second, followed by Cheek, Herman and Rausch. In moto two, Rausch and Cooper were jockeying for the holeshot, but Tarnow passed them both by the end of the first lap. Cooper didn't let hir(1 go unchallenged, though, passing him on the backside off-camber. Tarnow was determined to regain the lead but couldn't make it happen. At the checkers, it was Cooper, Tarnow, Herman, Rausch and Cheek. Honda rider Trey Terbush nailed ~he holeshot in the first aocc Open moto. Suzuki-mounted Cory Green put pressure on Terbush in the first turn and again on the first tabletop, but Terbush held his own. In the meantime, Honda-mounted Curtis Peterson and Yamaha pilot Eric McClintock were sneaking up on the distracted leaders. They both caught and passed Green, but they couldn't find a way around Terbush. The top five at the checkers were Terbu.sh, Peterson, McClintock, Green and Yamaha pilot Ryan Voit. Terbush got the holeshot again in moto two, but this time McClintock was challenging him in the first turn. Green grabbed some huge air on the first tabletop, trying to catch up to the leaders. Peterson moved into second and diced with Terbush until Terbush clipped his back tire and went down. Peterson hung on to the lead to the checkers. Green came in second. Terbush charged hard and crossed the finish line with McClintock. The fJagger had to be questioned to see who was going to get third place, and the verdict was that McClintock edged out Terbush by a knobby. Voit was fifth. Both motos of the 65cc (9- 11 ) class looked the same. Kawasaki
