Billie Calvin and Jason Sibley. Slater's lead lasted almost four laps before Calvin closed to his back fender then outjumped him. Brown followed Calvin's cue and dropped Slater another position in the following tum. Calvin continued on for the win over Brown and Slater. Urzura methodically worked his way up from a 10th-place start to finish fourth, ahead of Sibley and Benny Breck. Skyler Gray put his brand-new YZ80 to good use as he snared the holeshot in moto two and ran out front for a lap before Brown made the pass. Urzura was once again dealt a midpack start, but this time he was quickly up into third place with only two laps completed. A lap later, Urzura was out front and pulling away. When the checkers fell, Urzura had with a comfortable 10-second lead over Breck and the overall win on a 4-1 day. The second-place trophy Memoli and Brett Rothas argued over the lead in the first Supermini moto, with Rothas prevailing. Tye Hames worked his way around Norr for third at the checkers. Rothas absconded with the holeshot in moto two, but Memoli outbreaked him while coming down off the over-andunder section on the opening lap to move into the lead. Memoli then led every lap for his second class win of the day. Two sneaky checks burned a handful of riders before they headed into "the cut" - one of the favorite sections in the Ramblers' bag of tricks. The trails are technical but quite fun. Singleand double-track trails twist and wind their way through the rocks, trees and roots. McEachern and Madore both made it through the cut in incredible time with 0-0 scores through checks five and six. Carlson also really lit a fire through the section with the only 0-1 score. A handful of fast AA and A riders roosted through with 1-1 cards, including Peterson, Peter Tanner, Jim Mitchell, Bill Drummey, Austin Jalbert and Geraci. At the first gas stop, Madore and McEachern held the lead with only one point lost so far, followed closely by Carlson with two. Everyone else had lost at least three points. Then the course headed for more difficult terrain, including the infamous Black [, Blue rock garden, with its onetenth mile strip that is literally one rock after the other. In the midst of a state forest, this section can truly separate the contenders from the wannabes. Certainly proper suspension setup is important, but line selection is almost equally crucial; choosing the right line can be the difference between a bumpy ride and finding your front wheel diving between two boulders. Tanner must have had his clickers set right; he cruised through the section with a 2:47, followed by Peterson, with the only other sub-three-minute score (2:56). A relatively easy section followed where several riders went 0-0. Check 10 proved to be another critical section, with McEachern, Carlson and Tanner losing only two, compared to the many threes and fours carded by the rest of the Experts. Madore made up some ground at check II, posting the fastest score with only one point lost, followed by the twos of Peterson, Rick Claxton, McEachern and Carlson. McEachern and Carlson rode together through check 12, ripping through the fastest with one point lost each. Many twos and several threes JOE McLAUGHLIN WEST STAFFORD, CT, NOV. 5 ans Neff wrapped up the numberone position for the year at the penultimate round of the NETRA Enduro series two weeks prior to the Black [, Blue, becoming one of the elite few to take back-to-back NETRA Championships. Jerry Madore had sewn up second overall for the year at the same event. Jason Cayer sat nervously in third overall for the year, since he and Neff were using the season's final race to earn their work credits. Cayer's lock on the last podium spot would hold if anyone other than Eric McEachern took the overall win. With Cayer and Neff sitting out, a host of other top riders were ready to fight it out for the last win of the season. Madore was the favorite, as he played the spoiler all year with his consistently strong finishes. However, when the dust settled, McEachern had added his name to the list of repeat winners in the 2000 NETRA record books, barely edging out Dave Carlson Jr. McEachern rode hard to the finish with only 10 points lost. Riding on the same minute as McEachern, Carlson's II-point card was very close, but not close enough. Carlson actually beat McEachern at both emergency checks by a slim total of six seconds. However, his one-point score at check six sealed his fate, since McEachern made it through the check with no time lost. Carlson should not be disappointed with his hard-earned A High Point trophy. Madore finished the day in third overall (and first AA) with a 12. Following closely with 13-point cards were Raffi Peterson (second AA, fourth overall) and Anthony Geraci (first A Heavy, fifth overall). The day started in the 40s under sunny skies but fell into the 30s when the sun ducked behind the clouds. Nonetheless, the trails were in awesome condition for the season fmale, with primo traction and hardly any mud. The low scores were a testament to the great conditions.
